by Vera Brown My apologies to all those who made a trip to the wrong church last Sunday because of my error. I only had one word wrong and I really did know where church was being held. Anyway Church and Sunday School really will be held in Epsom this week at 11:00 a.m. Bible studies are being resumed on the 2nd and 4th Monday evenings of each month and are being held at the home of Paul and Shirley Baster. There will be a euchre in the hall this Friday at 8 p.m. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mr. Hillis Wilbur who is a patient in Port Perry Hospital at the present time. Mr. Bruce Bailey and Mrs. Dora Geer visited with Mr. and Mrs. Doug McKinley in PSTN CRU I PRN REATIVE IVCHEN Ta k by Helen Newlove Today, while watching the Bluejays be boss over my neighbour's feeder, I was thinking how kind wipter has been on the birds this year, as well as ourselves. But we still do things, we always do. The birds are being fed when they could fend for themselves - in this weather. It may not be cold, snowing and blowing, but it's still winter and a good time to feed the birds - their presence is cheering. : : This too is the time for soups and stews, the smell through the house is almost as rewarding as the meals themselves. . : Do make it meals, as.cooking enough stew or soup for one meal is a waste. Cook for two or three meals in the future. Freeze for those days you're too busy.to cook "but need that hearty fare to make your day complete. Take out your soup or stew and pop it in the oven, crockpot or stove top to simmer for supper. In our home stew is usually served with homemade bisucits. As chicken soup rates dumplings, food traditions of our family. Therefore I am not giving a stew recipe as I believe stew served in most homes are a variation of- meat, onion, seaosning and vegetables - made to the taste of family likes and dislikes. But- remember a bottle of wine, biscuits, crusty bread, dumplings or croutons can make the difference on stew or soup day. I was asked what to do with three wild ducks in the freezer - well if they were mine, I'd put them in a good deep bowl or stainless pot, cover them with a bottle of dry red wine and a bouquet of garni - thaw and marinate in fridge for two or three days. Then drain well - cut up if desired - saute ducks in hot oil in heavy pot. Sear well. Strain and season, marinate, pour over ducks. Bring to boil - then simmer till done. 1 to 1%% hours. Saute ten small onions, add % cup white wine and poach 2 cups mushrooms - cook about - 5 minutes. Add to ducks just before serving. If sauce is thin, thicken with a little cornstarch. and cold water. Serve with boiled potatoes tossed with butter. BOUQUET GARNI: 2 Bayleaves - crumbled, 4 tsp. each of- thyme, marjoram and parsley. Divieiee COMBO Spieces of 4 pcs. English Style Fish 2 Med. Digital (From page 5) electronic technology in the telecommunications in- dustry." Mrs. Lyttle said. "And the RLM allows us to extend this technology at other switching centres at a much faster pace and at less cost than if we had to build complete new switching of- fices of the traditional type." When the cutover took place on January 8, Blackstock subscribers will be affected as follows: * Dial tone will have a dif- ferent sound and on rotary dial sets, there will be no click heard in the receiver as the . dial returns to rest. * Dialing should start as soon as dial tone is heard. If there is a delay, the equipment may time out and it will be necessary to hang up and dial again. * When dialing to other ex- changes, the caller may find a noticeable pause from the finish of dialing until the phone rings. This is caused by the transition from one type of switching equipment to. another. * All seven digits must be dialed for local calls. * ANI takes effect but only for customers with individual or two party service. Those with four party service will still be required to give numbers to the operator. * These optional features will be available: Call Forwar- ding, Speed Calling. Three- way Calling, Call Waiting, Touch Phone. Blackstock customers were given details of all the changes in an account insert which accompanied their monthly bills from Bell. ~~ 2.
