Februarv 1, 1983 -- 31 Port Perry Agriculture Society hold annual meeting It may have been a cold night in January, but when Glenn Wanamaker addressed the annual meeting of the Port Perry Agricultural Society last week, he was talking about the Port - Perry Fair. The annual Fair held Labour Day Weekend is Glenn Wanamaker (left) was the guest speaker at the Port Perry Agricultural Society annual meeting last week. Mr. Wanamaker and his wife Marjory worked 11 an event close to Mr. Wanamaker"s heart as he and his wife Marjory spent 11 years as secretary-treasurer for the organization. Referring to the punch line in a well known TV commercial he said the Fair organizers must go out of their way to make years as secretary-treasurer for the Fair Board, and his speech to the meeting dealt with how to stage a successful fair. "The little boy with his home-made exhibit tak- ing part in his first Fair is just as important as the cattlemen with this expensive herd," said Mr. Wanamaker. It is important for is Fair Board president Irwin Smith. organizers to meet with others who work for Fairs in this part of the country to exchange ideas and discuss com- mon problems. Mr. and Mrs. Wanamaker served the Fair Board from 1968 to 1979 when they retired from these duties. They are life long residents of the area, having farmed for many years at Seagrave. In his closing remarks, Mr. Wanamaker said there is one ingredient for a great fair which nobody has control over: the weather. And referr- ing to the fact the Port Perry Fair has had some nasty weather the last three or four years, Mr. Wanamaker said 'it wouldn't hurt" to do a lit- tle praying for sunny skies. WRIGHT A resident of 262 Lilla St. Port Perry for the past 29 years, Garnet Wright died at the Oshawa General Hospital on Thursday, January 20, 1983. Son of the late John and Sarah Wright was born in Darlington Township, November 21, 1892. After spending part of his younger years there, he moved to Cartwright Township where he mar- ried the former Gladys Forder. They farmed many years on the farm west of 'Blackstock Cedar Creek (From page 29) and Isabel Porath of Minden on Saturday. Ray and Ruth Graham visited Saturday with Ruth's sister Marg and brother-in-law Tom Horton of Blackstock. They also spent Sunday afternoon with Jim and Hazel Coates of Shirley. Two of the guests attending a Jack and Jill shower for Jerri Lee Doyle of Prince Albert were Roy and Ruth Graham. Visiting for the week- end with Susan Graham was Connie Southern of Greenbank. Our sympathy is extended to Mrs. Minnie Larocque on the loss of her uncle, Mr. Tom Alexander of Burks Falls. Mr. Wright's wife died ten years previous. He is survived by four children. Walter of Blackstock, Hazel of Oshawa, Lloyd of Blackstock, Keith of Oshawa and ten grand- children and five great grandchildren, one brother Eber of Detroit and Elton deceased. Mr. Wright was at R. Wagg, McDermott- Panabaker Funeral Home. Service was held Saturday January 23, 1983. Spring interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert.
