| Music lovers are in for a real treat on Thursday, February 10, when international composer, arranger and instrumentalist Hagood Hardy comes to Town Hall 1873 for a concert. He will be here for one show only, which begins at 8:00 p.m. and there will be a limited number of tickets available at the door. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. Just noodle on with that music that touches the common chord while your Town Hall 1873 audience sits back, relaxes, wiggles its toes, gets mellow. With all that easy listen- ing, middle-of-the-road jazz and instrument- alism, February 10th' should be quite a toe- onto (winter) and Lake Simcoe (summer) has created quite a sound on the international music scene so it's easy to understand why his public concerts are always sellouts. Composer-arranger- orchestrator-producer- performer extraordin- aire, Haygood Hardy mastered almost every type of musical creation and every sort of music imaginable. Hardy developed his classical piano skills while questing his B.A. from the University of Toronto, then became 'deeply involved in the Toronto jazz scene. From there it was the "Big Apple', New York, in the sixties, then on to Vegas and Honolulu. After that came a stint with the George Shear- ing Quintet and a final swing back to Toronto for TV and club appear- ances, and formation of "The Montage", playing gigs from Ottawa to Miami to Los Angeles, touring Europe and recording until 1974. That year, the group disbanded and Hagood made hay with his new- est venture, Comm- ercial jingles. One of these, for Salada Tea, became his best-selling signature piece, "The Homecoming". Jingles,' a concert tour, and record contracts bur- geoned. Since then, the maestro has been one of the busiest composers, arrangers and instrum- entalists in the . music Canadian industry. He has written and recorded twenty- five feature film and television scores such as "Second Wind', "Klondike Fever", and 'Images of Ireland'; has created and record- ed countless radio and television commercial jingles -- General Motors, Bank of Commerce, Eaton's, to name three; has record- ed six more albums on Attic labels -- '"The Homecoming", '""Reflections", and others; has won many awards, among them three JUNOS and the Wm. Harold Moon award for the greatest contribution to the International recog- nition of Canadian music; and has received from the record industry three gold album records, a plat- inum, and a double plat- inum. Symphony orchestras demand his talents and his music, among them the Toronto, the Vancouver, and the Atlantic Symphonies, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. Now Port Perry can get in on this class act when Hagood Hardy appears as a part of the Town Hall 1873 Sub- scription Series on Thursday, February 10th at 8 p.m. For this performance, Hagood's Quartet featuring Messers Rob Piltch on guitar, Paul Novotny on bass, and Buff Allen on drums will be backing the Hardy magic.
