ON SFVES AL Cordial holiday welcome extended during church Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Nestleton United Church Women The Nestleton U.C.W. met in the Church on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. with Pres. Bernice Mairs in the chair. She brought the meeting to order with a poem re- Thanks- giving- followed by a hymn and a cordial welcome to all. A splendid devotional led by Jean Williams with Helen Vine and Leona Sadler taking part, presented many thoughts for the Thanksgiving Season - interspersed by singing verses of 'Count Your Blessings' in duet form by Bernice Mairs and Janice MacKenzie with Gwen Malcolm at the piano. The roll call- "'a wor- thwhile radio or TV pro- gramme' brought forth interesting answers. Minutes were approved asread by Sec'y Barbara Weir, and communica- tions were dealt with- also- a satisfactory finan- cial statement was given by Jean Williams. Dur- ing the business portion- many items were discussed. One hundred dollars was voted to our Port Perry Hospital Building Fund. Orders for Church calendars for 1984 were taken. Plans were finalized for the Ecumenical meeting to be held Thurs. Oct. 20th in Nestleton United Church with several groups invited to attend. A special speaker as well as- special music will be of interest. Meeting closed with Benediction. Tempting refreshments were serv- ed by Jean Williams and members of her group. Appreciation was ex- tended by Mabel Cawker to all who contributed to the meeting. Family Interests Mr. and Mrs. Archie Moffat of Welland called on Miss Ruth Proutt, Nestleton on Wed. morning- later visiting with Mrs. Grace Jackson, Caesarea. John and Marion Hall, Williams Point, went to Ajax on Friday after- noon to attend a birthday party for grandson Christopher Hall. Cousins Rebecca and Rachael Hall of Scugog Island were also guests. A very nice party en- joyed by all. Happy Bir- thday to Chris! John and Marion Hall entertained their family on Sunday for Thanksgiving dinner. A fine get-to-gether! Thanksgiving Monday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm, Nestleton, were: Mr. Stanley Malcolm and Miss Gail Malcolm of Port Perry; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Malcolm, Heather, Alison and Erin; and Mr. and Mrs. David Malcolm, Kingsley, Joshua and Nicholas - all of Nestleton. On Sat. October 1st, Fred and Carol Cocker- ton of Caesarea "hosted" a family gathering in honour of Myles Smith's 75th birthday. A very fine celebration and we hope Myles enjoys many more such occasions. All the best from this area! On Sat. evening- Dan and Lea Kitchen, Oshawa "hosted'" a Thanksgiving dinner for the family. Those enjoy- ing this festive occasion were: Alan and Eleanor Cawker; Andy and Anne Cawker, Valerie, Andrea and Klane, Michael and Gisela Cawker, Aaron and Ashleigh, Scott Cawker and friend Joanne Guscott, Mark Cawker and friend Ola Kisil, and Christine Cawker - all of Oshawa and Sam and Mabel Cawker of Scugog Point. On Sunday, the Sam Cawkers enjoyed dinner with Grant and Merna Cawker and Cathy of Oshawa. The Grant Cawkers were dinner guests on Monday eve at the Sam Cawker farm. The Church News In North Nestleton United Church, the sanc- tuary was tastefully decorated in keeping with the Thanksgiving Day theme. The Sunday School worshipped with their parents in this family style service. Ken and Art Weir were readers and Arnold Williams and Ralph Sadler received the offer- ing. The congregation joined with the choir in singing 'Count Your Blessings' with Rev. Dale Davis accompany- ing on the piano. The ser- mon "Do I Have To Go To Church?" was thought provoking. Organist Mrs. L. Malcolm: Caesarea Community Church On a brisk fall Sunday- Rev. Charles Clarke of Prince Albert, presented an excellent message re- Thanksgiving with many thoughts for the con- gregation to dwell upon. If only the Church had been filled to capacity to hear him! Mrs. Mabel Cawker was organist. Next Sunday - try to at- tend at 11 a.m. The Caesarea Brownies will hold a rummage and bake sale on Sat. Oct. 15th - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Com- munity Centre. Give this fine group your support in this fund-raising project: GIVE YOUR BUDGET A BREAK Lions Club Notice The Blackstock and District (Cartwright) Lions will be canvassing for the C.N.L.B. the last two weeks in October. Be ready for your canvasser and give this worthy cause your whole- hearted support. Nestleton Recreation Committee The Committee meeting will be held Oc- tober 19th at 8 p.m. in the Nestleton Rec room. Would as many as possi- ble please attend! Scouting October 15th is Apple Day in Cartwright -- please support the efforts of the Scouts. Nestleton Presbyterian Church With a lovely cool autumn day for Thanksgiving - with the church decorated for the occasion and an ex- cellent congregation in attendance, Rev. Fred Swann delivered an im- pressive sermon entitled "Thanksgiving" quoting from passages from Col- ossians, Dueteronomy and Samuel. During the offeratory, the choir sang 'Now Thank We All Our God."' Mrs. Shirley Scott- organist. The Ladies Aid will meet on Thurs. Oct. 13th at 1:30 p.m. Board of Managers meeting Friday, Oct. 21st, 7:30 p.m. Rev. Swann will be hospitalized in Oshawa for surgery and will be absent from the pulpit for the next two Sundays. Service next Sunday at 10 a.m. Caesarea Euchre At the weekly card party the winners were: First- Al Cormack- 87; second- Dorothy Edwards- 82; Al Haskett- 46. A fine attendance. Again next Wed. evening for a good time. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. October 12, 1983 -- 15 Taste treats The Pineridge Garden Club held a special bake sale last Tues- day evening in order to raise money for the Port Perry Community Hospital.
