Hospital. Tina and her mother, Johanna Ruhl went to North Bay to visit Chris and Johanna's first granddaughter, a daughter for Peggy and Willie Burke. Congratu- lations. Mr. and Mrs. Ruhl recently visited her brother, Harry Joggers and his wife, Regina at their home at Highland Grove. Mrs. Hilda McBee of Millarville, Alta, is visiting a few days with her sister, Mrs. Don Asling. On Saturday evening, Don and Faye Simmonds visited Doug and Beth Wilson. Oct. 5, at 1:30 p.m. with eleven members and two visitors present. Pres. Mrs. Don Frew brought the meeting to order with the Ode- Mary Stewart Collect and a poem, '"The man in the Glass." Sec'y-Treas. Mrs. R. France gave the finan- cial statement and read the correspondence. Minutes were approved as read. The Roll Call- "How to keep children interested in school," proved interesting. District Director, Mrs. J. Wygerde gave a report of the District meeting. Members volunteered to supply various items for the Fun Fair on Oct. 18th. Plans re- Central Area Conservation on Nov. 1, 2, were made. On Nov. 2, a special evening "It's Just Your Nerves" is to be held in Nestleton Community Centre. Four speakers from the Durham Health Unit are to form a panel. The public are cordially in- vited to attend. Refreshments served by Blackstock and Nestleton W.I. members. A worthwhile program on Education and Cultural Activities was presented by the Con- vener Mrs. L. Malcolm. A brief sing-song, was followed with the motto- "It's what we learn after we think we know it all that counts."' This stess- ed the developing of pro- per attitudes to educa- tion in the home. Mrs. L. Malcolm then introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. G. Kelly who spoke on '"'changes in education." Extra curriculum ac- tivities available to students now are curling, skiing, cross country running, swimming, and instrumental music. Special educational classes are available for both gifted and slow learners. Science Fairs and new concept of K to Gr. 13 in one school as suggested for Blackstock was explained. Joyce proved to be both in- teresting and infor- mative with bits of humour throughout. After a brief question period, the Convener thanked her and presented a small gift. A humerous reading on Metric Confusion was given by Mrs. R. Not- tingham, followed by a Metric Quiz conducted by the Convener. After a Thanksgiving poem read by Mrs. N. Rohrer the meeting closed with O Canada and the Institute Grace. A Thanksgiving fruit arrangement and flowers centered the tea table, as Mrs. N. Rohrer and her group served sandwiches, squares and a social cup of tea. Mr. R. Davison voiced ap- preciation to the officers and those responsible for another interesting meeting. Blue Ray Chapter Installs Officers The installation ceremonies of Blue Ray Chapter, No. 238, Order of the Eastern Star was held on Thursday even- ing, Oct. 13 in the Masonic Temple, Port. Perry, to honour the newly elected Worthy Matron, Elsa Bongard, and her staff of officers for 1983-84 term. During the evening, sister Iris Sparks, Whitby, sang two lovely solos accom- panied by sister Eileen Waltham of Whitby. At the close of the Installa- tion, the new Worthy Matron Elsa Bongard ex- pressed warm apprecia- tion to officers and members for the honour conferred upon her and thanked the members of the Installing Board for the beautiful ceremony. Her Worthy Patron, Chris Dennis spoke briefly- re the suppoort received from officers and members and stated he was happy to assist Sister Elsa and would do his best for Blue Ray Chapter. Sister Elsa was the recipient of many lovely gifts to commemorate the occasion. As Sister Elsa assumes the responsibility of her of- fice -- we extend "our very best wishes" for a progressive, successful -- as well as a happy, harmonious year in the East, promoting the principles of our fine Order. A "highlight" was meeting Elsa's husband, Gord, and her employers Mr. and Mrs. Strong.
