ATOM Marj Tripp -3 U.AW.-2 This was probably the most exciting game of the young season with both teams keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. UAW jumped into an early 2 goal lead with Jason McBride and Kevin Brown getting markers and goalie Brian Madill turning back the Tripp shooters. Tripp finally got on the scoreboard when Scott Foster scored on a solo effort then took the lead on goals by Noel Lover- ing and Daryl Dutke- wich, with assists going to newcomer Emmett Burton and Jeff Brett. In the final minute, UAW pulled their goalie and threw everything at David Talbot at the other end. In the last 15 seconds McBride miss- ed on a breakaway, then Edgar lofted one over the net. And thats the - way it ended. Swamp Garage - 1 Scugog Lumber - 1 This was a tight checking affair with goalies Shrybert and Pogue both producing excellent efforts. Rick Larocque opened the scoring for Scugog with assists going to brother Sean Larocque- and Chris Forder who was in action for the first time this year with Scugog. Swamp tied it up when "T. Cornel scored his first of the season on a pass from Don Hughes. From then on it was a game for the goalies and checkers. The Shepperd boys looked strong for Swamp and Whittaker and Labanovich put in their best efforts this season for Scugog. It was a close checking match and when Port had trouble deep in their own end, Chris' Mc- Connell came up with -some-fantastic saves. Stouffville connected with their first marker late in the first period. The Legionaires were unable to capitalize while having a two man advantage as Stouffville goalie remained hot throughout the entire game.. Having been awarded a penalty shot Mike Sorley had no trouble deaking goalie Bryce Percy to open the scoring at the 9:54 mark, Brooklin evened the score 1:46 later. A three way passing play from Derek Fitzgerald and Clair Cornish to Kevin Gibson again had Port in the lead before the period ended. Whit- by tying the score early in the second soon found themselves down by two as Clair Cornish deaked Whitby goalie to make it 3-2, Derek Fitzgerald earning the assist 1:23 later. Jarett Harman positioned in front of the net scored on a rebound shot from Eric Grosvenor. the final twenty minutes remained scoreless until the 13:31 mark when a blistering shot from the blueline had Whitby within reach of tying. The Legion- aires were able to with hold this slim lead as they faced six attackers for the remaining 45 seconds of play. Paul Kett did a fine job between the pipes and received protection from Chris Legere who has been playing very well on defense. Petites defeat On Sunday, Oct. 30, the Bruton's I.D.A. Petites travelled to Oshawa and defeated the Oshawa "B" team by a score of 5-2. Lisa Levy scored the first goal just 30 seconds into the game. Later in the first "period, Misty Andrews assisted by Kelly Menzies gave Port a 2 goal lead. Oshawa scored in the second to make it 2 to 1 but Lisa scored twice to earn her a hat trick. Misty scored the final goal after Oshawa | B's 5-2 "Oshawa had made it 4-2. The defense played well stopping the opposition before they could get their shots on the net. All three forward lines kept the other team from scoring by their forechecking and pass- ing in the other teams end. All the girls played well, especially the new girls on the team this year.
