Marj Tripp -3 Scugog Lumber - 1 In a battle of the league leaders - Marj Tripp upset Scugog Lumber 3 to 2 to remain as the only undefeated team in the league. John Collins opened the scoring with his first of 2 goals, then Chris Forder tied it up 3 minutes later on a pass from Glenn Whitaker. John's second goal proved to be the winner and was assisted by Jeff Brett. Mike Olaisen added an un- assisted insurance marker in the third period. Noel Lovering picked up the win in goal for Tripp. PEE WEE Saturday's action saw two exciting games played with Frank Real Estate defeating the Lions Club by a 6-1 score, and Scala Bros. battling back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 3-3 tie against Wes Lane. W.Frank-6 Lions -1 The score may indi- cate a one sided game, however, it was any- thing but Lions opened the scoring on an un- assisted goal by Adam Cummings. It was early in the second period before Frank's Chris Carr tied the score at 1 on his first of 4 goals. Chris McConnell then put Frank ahead by 1 late in the 2nd. Midway through the 3rd, Carr came back with his second goal giving Frank a 3-1 lead. This seemed to take the steam out of the Lions who just couldn't get back on track. Carr again scored to put the game out of reach. McConnell again added a little icing to the cake, scoring his second goal { JER i i OT A AN rk ARPT TR Peri AC) iy FRET Via ETS > y > FAK SIGUE, IS ia | A PATA Sah SEARLS A PRT TARA BN TARPS aa RTE PRLEESPGLE AE VES BES MIE Le ea aman late in the period. Carr once again came back with his fourth goal with 2 minutes left in the game to top off his 5 point performance. Getting assists for Frank's were John Andrews with 3, Kevin Mantel 1, Craig Lasky 1 and Chris Carr 1. Wes Lane -3 Scala Bros. -3 Never say die teams to be the best way to describe this game. Scala Bros. winless so far this year battled back from a 3-0 score to earn a well-deserved tie. Lane's wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard when Gord Ireland opened the scor- ing in the first minute of play on an unassisted goal. Peter Brock upped the score to 2-0 with a nice goal assisted by Gord Ireland. Scott White came back a minute later and gave Lane's a 3-0 advantage with a goal assisted by Mike Butt. A never say die attitude paid off for Scala as they took control of the 3rd period. Cole Perry put Scala on the board early in the 3rd on a goal assisted by Graham Sullivan. It seemed the score would stay at 3-1 but late in the game, Sullivan brought the Scala boys closer on a goal with an assist going to Perry. With time running out, John Osmond put in the tieing goal with Sullivan again assisting. Congrat- ulations to both teams on a well-played game. BANTAM by Don Hurst You would almost think that when the kids come charging through the Port Perry Arena doors on Saturday morn- ing "That the Russians are Coming." November 15, 1983 -- 23 Port Perry Minor Hockey House Leagues "Stars." Be patient Mom and Dad -- he's a star in his own little way -- he feels he's the best and I do too. Some irate parents get a little restless now and again, and chomp on the convenor's head, partly over the phone, when all they need to do is con- front him on Saturday mornings. But, he, the convenor just sits and watches, takes a few notes, makes a decision, moves a player here and there and the parent is all too pleased. There's always a new twist every year. The big surprise so far this year on Saturday mornings is the closeness of play, in the Bantam Houseleage. Both games were not decided, until the last three minutes of play. Both games ended up 4-2. The com- petitiveness is keen. Cochrane's Trotters -- 4, Consumer's Gas -- 2 Consumer's Gas gave the Trotters all they could handle. Joe Hamilton started things off for the Gas works then, Al Shepstone added the other goal. Both unassisted. Cochrane Trotters found the Gas boys more trouble than they reckon- ed with, and it wasn't un- til 2:09 left in the game, Craig Venning scored, giving them the win. Also scoring were Dave Tom- pkins with two; while Terry Bache scored the second goal. Picking up assists were Chris Wat- son, Tompkins, Oram and Elliott. I.GA. -- 14 Emmerson's Ins. -- 2 In this second game again with 2:09 left to play, Mark Fitz scored, giving 1.G.A. a 4-2 win. John Sturman and Dar- ren Frank picked up assists. Also scoring for I.G.A. were Frank with two, while Ian Smith added the other. Picking up assists were Van Veghel, Stur- man 2; Dekhecht 2 and Frank. Malmont Atoms lose 7-2 to Canadians On Sunday, Nov. 13, 1983, Port Perry Mal- mont Farms Atoms travelled to Oshawa and took a 7-2 trouncing at: the hands of the Little N.H.L. Canadians. Oshawa jumped out to a 40 lead and never look- ed back. Dan Sluggett scored for Port unassisted in the second period, but Canadians tallied three more times before Mark Andrews scored short-handed from Jason Cochrane. On Friday, Nov. 11th, 1983, the Malmont Farms Atoms hosted Bowmanville Toros and Port racked up a 5-1 vie- tory. Jeff Parry opened the scoring with an unassisted goal and then Jeff scored his second of the night from Jason Cochrane and Jason Towns to make it 2-0 for Port. Mark Andrews put Port up 3-0 with assists credited to John Heyes and Stephen Laird. Bowmanville scored this winter. mid-way through the se- cond period and the score stood 3-1, Port go- ing into the third. Stephen Laird got his first goal of the year on a nice rush where he put on some shifty moves and his shot was too tough for the Bowman- ville goalie to handle. Dan Sluggett got the assist on Steéphen's goal. Finally Scott Menzies rounded out the scoring and Jody Logan earned the assist in Scott's marker. It was a good team effort and Port's tour defencemen played well. Mike Feasby, Stephen Laird, Jason Towns and Steve Staniland. Port's next home game is Friday, Nov. 18th, 1983 vs Ux- bridge as Port prepares this week for their first tournament Nov. 19th-20th, 1983 in Ennismore.
