While this was taking place, another group was holding a very interesting event at the Community Hall. This time it involved children in the organizations of Guides, Brownies, Cubs and Beavers along with their leaders and families. There were many demonstrations and crafts for sale. Of particular note was the display by Ernie and Christena Edgar who brought stuffed birds and fish as well as carved and leather items. It was hard for the children to keep their hands off as they were keenly interested -in the early heritage of the Mississauga Indians lived on Stugog Island for many tickets sold. Many Island people must have supported the sale as the winner has been on the Island for 3 years. Congratulations to this year's winner, Mrs. Marilyn French. We must not forget the parents = who supplied goodies for the Bake Sale and table refreshments and to leaders who spent hours in planning and organ- izing. The Island event was a Community sponsored and supported project much different from the one in Port Perry where people gathered from distant centres to dis- play and sell their varied crafts. In both places grandparents and older people were missed because of treacherous travelling conditions. This week on Wed. the Island Women's Insti- tute will meet at the BEFORE THE SNOW FLIES ...
