McClelland The Port Perry Mo- Jacks are clinging to first place in the Central Junior C League by a single point over the Bowmanville Eagles, thanks to a convincing 8-4 victory Sunday night over the Stouffville Clippers. MoJacks ran their unbeaten streak to 13 games (11 wins, two ties) breaking a long- standing record for a Port Perry Junior C club. The team now has 26 points (as of Sunday night) while the Eagles Eagles had little trouble with third-place Lake- field Sunday night as they handed the Chiefs a 10-3 thumping. Against Stouffville at the Scugog Arena Sun- day night, the MoJacks again proved they are a tough third period squad as they scored three times in the final frame without giving up a goal. There have been better Junior C games played at the Scugog Arena, but certainly as far as the MoJacks are concerned, one of the highlights was the per- formance of netminder Ken Harman. He faced 45 shots and was superb as he stood up all evening to chall- enge the Clipper shoot- ers, and was especially sharp blocking shots through heavy traffic in front of the cage. The MoJacks net- minding duo of Harman and Clay Lovering have kept the goals against average under five per game. Forward John Vaz got the MoJacks on the board first in the open- ing frame with a good shot from the slot area after John Fusco had fed him a nice pass. The Clippers took advantage of a MoJack penalty late in the period when Archie Clark beat Harman off a scramble. It didn't take MoJacks long to get moving in the second as Wayne Snodden rapped one in after just six seconds of play, and he added another at 5:50 with a shot along the ice. end, but at 12:35, Brad Flaxman again gave MoJacks a two goal bulge when he found himself all alone in front of the Clipper goalie Paul Richards. _The Clippers were not about to go to sleep on the MoJacks as Mike Anderson scored a short-handed goal at 13:35 to cut the margin to one, before Paul Betterworth scored at 17:10 to give Port Perry a 5-3 lead. Stouffville again cut the lead to one goal as Barry Greenshields put one behind Harman at 19:08 of the second. But the MoJacks, who have won several games so far this year in the third period, put the match away at the 20 second mark when Brian Nicholson flipped the puck into a wide open net after a very clever passing play by Scott Wallace and Bob Horton. Wayne Snodden com- pleted his hat trick at MolJacks set a new club record 6:14 and Nicholson rounded out the scoring at 12:57 with his second of the game as he found the top corner. Snodden has proved to be a real sniper for the MoJacks with a quick shot and good moves inside the blue line. He doesn't dominate a game, but seems to be around the puck when goals are scored. He's durable too, as he took a tremendous check against the boards in the first period, but shook it off with no trouble. MoJack forward Scott Wallace picked up four ih trail with 25 points. But Clippers madeit 3-2at assists in the game, 124 the Bowmanville squad 9:20 as MoJacks had all while Horton helped set 30 lias a game in hand on kinds of trouble getting up three goals, and Rob res the MoJacks. The the puckout of their own Nicholson collected a pair of assists. The team was without two defensemen, Dave Rockbrune who is having back problems, and Russ Jones who recently had a calcium deposit removed from his shoulder. Jones is playing fine hockey along the MoJack blue line this season and he should be back in uniform in the not too distant future. The team travelled to Cobourg on Monday night for a game against the Cougars, but will not play again until Dec- ember 2 when they visit Lakefield. There is no home game this coming Sun- day because the Rice Lake Rangers dropped out of the league. Next home game at the Scugog Arena for the ..
