Heron There was a mistake in last weeks news, instead of pillow slippers, it should have been pancake slippers at the craft show and sale coming up at the golf club on Dec. 10th, besides these curious slippers, which we understand are quite special there will be all kinds of crafts such as glass engraving log cabin bags, Folk art painting and many more surprises so put a ring around Dec. 10, it sounds like a fun day. A belated happy birth- day to Bill Hopkins, who celebrated his birthday with relatives and friends at the home of his brother and sister, Hilda and Walter. We all wish Bill many more happy birthdays. John and Betty Cin- curah recently visited relatives and friends in Leamington, Ontario and at the same time attended a family wedding at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The annual general meeting of the Social planning advisory group (S.P.A.G.) of Durham Region was held at Ashburn Community Centre on Thursday, Nov. 10th. The executive for the coming year was install- ed. President Sandy Fise, Whitby, Sec- Treas. Betty Gardner Cincurak of Ashburn. The guest speaker, Bill Amell of Peterbor- ough of the National Anti-Poverty Associ. spoke on Unemploy- ment and the economy. The meeting was well attended by represent- atives of voluntary organizations of Dur- ham Region (ie.) Community Care C.I.V.P. and Red Cross as well as local and Regional politicans and local regional and pro- vincial gov't staff members. Mr. Don Gardner of Verdon, Manitoba is a guest this week with Mr... and Mrs. W. Gardner and Jean. There was a -neighb- ourhood watch meeting held in the Communit y Centre last Wednesday evening. Mayor Robert Attersley opened the meeting and deputy chief Steve Edwards introduced the police officers Peter Wraight and Jerry Dionne. With the help of these officers of the crime prevention dept. of Durham Region Police, the citizens of Ashburn will work to establish a wneighbour- hood watch program: fifty five citizens attend- ed to the introduction meeting. There will be more information later. On November 27th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. you can spend a happy afternoon at Ashburn store. There was a euchre at the community centre last Thursday evening. The ladies who won prizes were Ruby Smith, Dana Janigo and Debbie Johnston. The mens prizes went to Alvin Spencer, Tony Pittens and George Harper. John Hopkins won the door prize. The next euchre will be December 1st. There was a good attendance at the family night in the church hall last Friday evening. The program was spent on by the 'Townliners Plus'. Ray Porter was the chairman and opened the program with the singing of O Canada and Rr Sha Ny A. a sing song for every- one. Chris and Debbie Batten sang a beautiful duet. A humorous skit was put on by Diane Batten, Norma Engle- ton and Ray Porter. The Davidchuck family Reta, Mathew, Chantel and Steven did three lovely numbers. A trio Barbara Porter, Harold Fisher and Ron Ashton sang "How Great Thou Art". Arnold Ashton and Neil McEntyre played 3 contemporary numbers on their special instru- ments. A musical quiz was given by Sharmon and Barbara Porter. Cake and Ice Cream rounded out a good evening. Last Sunday morning at Burns Church Holy Communion was observed. Rev. Steve Kearley of Manitoulin Island came home for the weekend to visit his parents in Uxbridge and at the Ron Brown's home. Lois and Barry Bushell visited on Wed. evening with her parents, Howard and Ruth Ashton and Sun. evening Allen, Joyce and their family of Oakwood visited Howard and Ruth. Donna Rodin and children, Anton, Candice and Nathan visited Stella Asling on Friday and on Sat. Stella's brother Bill Ryall and his wife visited with Stella and Don. Pine Grove Christmas Carol Service at their beautiful little church will be Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. Details later.
