Scugog council gave its approval in principle January 23 and the same was done by Ux- bridge council three days later. One of the concerns: the councils have is whether there is a need: initially for two vans (which will eost about $55,000 to purchase). Elizabeth Fulford of Scugog Community Care, who appeared before Scugog council last week and was pre- sent at the meeting of Uxbridge council, said she is '"'optimistic the logistics can be worked out," on such things as budgets and cost shar- ing among the two mun- icipalities. Administrator Earl Cuddie said last week that what council likely will do is designate streets in new sub- divisions as Borelia Hill and Jimmy Frise Way rather than change the names of existing roads. Borelia was at one time the name of the old part of Port Perry roughly in the area 'north of Lilla St., west of Queen and south of Simcoe Street. Jimmy Frise was a noted cartoonist for the Toronto Star, in the 1920's and 30's. His comic strip "Birdseye Centre" offered a hum- ourous look at urban and rural life. A plaque honouring Frise has been erected on the grounds of the Scugog Shores Museum at Concession Six on the Island.
