24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 7, 1984 MoJack-Eagle series dead-locked at one each by John B. McClelland "The Port Perry Mo- Jacks drew first blood and then had it spilled all over them as the best of five quarter finals with the Bowmanville Eagles got underway with two games last weekend. The MoJacks came up with a fine effort in the first game Saturday night at the Secugog Arena to defeat the Eagles 2-1 in the second overtime period, but Sunday night in Bow- manville it was a totally different story as the Eagles went on a ram- page to win 144, It was hard to believe that a team's fortunes could change so drama- tically in the span of 24 hours, but the Eagles showed why they finish- ed the Central Junior C regular schedule in first place with a record of 27 wins, five ties and just two losses for 59 points. On Sunday night in front of their boisterous home town fans, the Eagles turned belliger- ent, bumping the Mo- Jacks off the puck at every turn, totally dis- rupting their game plan. For the MoJacks, the bottom began to fall out after the first period as the Eagles scored five times in the second and added five more in the final frame. The MoJacks actually got things going on the right foot with a goal by Marvin MacNeil in the first minute as he tuck- ed a backhand behind Craig German. Eagles went ahead 2-1 as Brad Clement and Duane Major beat Clay Lover- ing by the mid-point in the period. Scott Wallace on a set- up from John Fusco and Dave Rockbrune knott- ed the score at two each and then the teams trad- ed goals in less than a minute with Vaughn McKee slamming in a rebound after MacNeil had dug the puck from behind the net. Just 50 seconds later, MoJacks took a short- lived 4-3 lead as Bob Horton forced an Eagles defenseman to cough up the puck and he went in alone to flip a backhand past German. But the lead didn't last as Darryl Rowe converted a nice pass- ing play in front of Lovering and the period ended in a 4-4 tie. By the mid-point in the second, the Eagles had opened a two goal bulge and from then on, there was never any question about the out- come of the game. A shell-shocked Clay Lovering didn't get much help from his mates and he was replaced after 40 minutes by Ken Har- man who saw nothing but red and white jerseys around his cage in the final period. It was a violent, at times vicious hockey game, which threatened on more than one occasion to turn into a donneybrook as players from both sides carried the lumber and elbows high. Just what the drubb- ing does to the MoJacks confidence remains to be seen as they go back to Bowmanville for game three this evening (Tuesday, Feb. 7). The fourth game in the series will be played at the Scugog Arena this coming Saturday evening, and the fifth (if needed) will be back in Bowmanville the next night.
