Ken Jackson was on hand Saturday night at the Scugog Arena for the ceremonial face-off as the Old Cees took on the 1984 Mo- Jacks in an exhibition match. At left is cap- tain Harold Fair and MoJack Todd Wilbur. The refs for this match were Bill Van Camp and Steve Hillier who kept a close eye on the Atom A locked in series On Wednesday March 14, the Port Perry Atoms opened the East- ern Ontario zone semi- finals at home against Ernestown and came out on the short end of a 2 to 1 loss. It was a see saw battle back and forth between two good clubs and with any kind, of luck Port could have come out on top of this one. Port's only goal came off the stick of Scott Menzies who fired it home from just out- side the crease after being set up by some great forechecking by Mark Andrews and Jody Logan. Ernestown fought back with two of their own in the third for the win. Shawn Laroc- que played the whole game in net and made some fantastic saves for Port. On Thursday March 15 the Port Perry Mal- mont Atoms played the second game of this best no slap shots, no body check rules. The Old Cees showed they haven't slowed down much as they defeated the MoJacks 8-4 in an enter- taining and hard-fought affair. Proceeds of about $300 were turned over to the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association. of five series in Ernes- town but this time they won 3to2inan overtime period. Play picked up right where it left off the night before, fast and hard, and Jan Heyes opened the scoring when he went around behind the net and tucked the puck in the short side with Mark Andrews and Mike Feasby assisting. Ernestown scored with- in a minute of Jan's goal then the two teams battled to a 1 all tie at the end of regulation time. After a short breather, the game re- sumed with a ten minute overtime period. Carey Labiuk was sensational in net throughout the me and continued his hand into the over- time stoning Ernestown al every opportunity. Jan Heyes and Jeff Parry figured on the go ahead goal with a lot of tough work. With 3:09 left in thegame and Port on the power play Jan Heyes got a super goal with a great second effort while down on his knees in front of the crease and Jason Cochrane and Dan Sluggett figured in the scoring with good work in the corners. In a last ditch effort Ernestown scored with their goalie out and 15 seconds re- maining but Port hung on for the 3 to 2 win which made for a better bus ride home. Game 3 is in Ernestown Thurs- day night March 22, 1964. On Monday March 12, the Port Perry Malmont Farms Atoms played their third playoff game against Uxbridge on their ice and came home with an 8 to 0 win there- by sweeping the series three games straight and outscored Uxbridge 17 to 0 along the way. Mark Andrews opened the scoring in the first on a set up by Jody Logan. Jody had his biggest night of the season with three goals for the hat trick plus two assists as well. Jody got Port's second goal un- assisted then he got the third goal from Mark Andrews. With 9 seconds left in the second period Mike Feasby fired a wrist shot from the point that went in off a Uxbridge skater to beat the sur- prised Uxbridge goalie. Port got four goals in the third stanza. Jason Cochrane scored on a break from centre after taking a beautiful pass from Jeff Parry who hit Jason in full stride to send him away. Jody Logan got his third goal from Jason Towns and Mark Andrews then Danny Sluggett scored when the puck went in off of Danny's head but Dan claimed he planned it that way. Jan Heyes got credit for the pass to 'Danny. Then with 6 seconds left, Mark Andrews figured he might as well end the scoring as he had open- ed it and Jody Logan assisted Mark's goal. Cary Labuik tended the net and had to make a couple tough saves to earn his shut-out. Con- gratulations on a good series and good luck in the next round. tricks up sleeve The Old Cees from a decade or so ago and the 1984 Port Perry Mo- Jacks put on a spirited display of exhibiti hockey at the Scug Arena Saturday night, but the real winners are a bunch of eight-year old stars of the future. The Old Cees, made up mainly of players from the 1972-73 Flam- ingos, showed they haven't forgotten too many tricks in this non- contact, no slap shot match, as they doubled the MoJacks 8-4 in front - of a good crowd. Proceeds from this game (about $300) will be turned over to Minor 'Hockey in Port Perry which will use 'the money to stage the up- coming Novice tourna- ment, sponsored by the MoJacks Junior C Club. As for the game itself, the MoJacks jumped into an early 2-0 lead as Todd Wilbur counted both goals. They upped it to 3-1 on a rebound by Scott Wallace. But then the Cees went to work as Rick Campbell and Bob Marquis did most of the damage with some crisp passing and skatipg. Midget B's skate to series win On Wednesday March 14 the Canadian Tire Midget B's took a 2-0 lead in their best of five series by trouncing Stirling by a score of 7 to 1.
