She opened the meeting with the Ode and Mary Stewart Col- lect, followed by a poem entitled "Challenge." A warm welcome was ex- tended to all present. The Roll Call- '"'How we benefit from meeting together" - all felt getting to know one another and becoming friends was very important. The Sec'y-Treas. Mrs. R. France read minutes of the last meeting, and presented an excellent financial statement. Cor- rec'd a letter and calen- dar from the President of an Institute in Durham Country Federation of Women's Institute's in England. Members held a discussion re- Bicentennial Celebration on July 7th. Mrs. L. Malcolm was appointed to attend a meeting at Blackstock Town Hall representing Nestleton Branch. Citizenship and World Affairs convenor Mrs. G. Fish offered the follow- ing progam: Mrs. G. Members were pleas- ed to have Mrs. C. Pickard of Nestleton speak on the important role she plays as Secretary of the Genealogical Society. Meetings are held once a month in Toronto and she is required to view all cemeteries in Durham and make note of the in- scriptions on the monuments. She brought along material and books to show the members what her duties are. Mrs. Pickard closed her in- teresting talk with a poem entitled "Mother's Apron." Mrs. A. Beacock favoured with a poem - followed by a sing-song of Irish songs - Mrs. L. Malcolm presiding at the piano - interspersed by Irish jokes - Mrs. Fish the story teller. Meeting closed with O Canada and Institute Grace. A lovely lunch was served with table enhanced by St. Patrick's decorations and a beautiful cake made and "decked" out in, Irish style by Mrs. L. McKee. Lunch in charge of Mesdames A. Beacock, G. Thompson and G. Fish. Apprecia- tion expressed by Mrs. R. Davison. Scouting in Cartwright The first Cartwright Group committee are sponsoring a dance March 31st, at Nestleton Community Centre. Ross Jackman D.J. service will providce the music, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. A buffet . luncheon is included in the price of the ticket. Lions Club Notes - The Blackstock and District Lions Club wish to extend their apprecia- tion to the citizens of Cartwright for donations and support given re- their eyeglass drop boxes which were placed in Nestleton Country Store and Thompson's Market in Blackstock during the month of February. As a result, 37 pair of glasses were turned in. Church News A meaningful service for the second Sunday in Lent was held at Nestleton United Church on Sunday morning with a good attendance - ap- prox. sixty on hand in- cluding the S. School. Those extending a cor- dial welcome at the door were Richard and Janice MacKenzie, Claire and Leslie. A fine selection was rendered by the choir - "Come Into My Heart Blessed Jesus" with Janice MacKenzie taking the solo part. Our oraganist- Gwen- dolyn Malcolm.
