- players 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 8, 1984 Bridge players turn cash over to hospital Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker A Werthy Cause Supported A group of ladies from the Caesarea, Williams Point and Blackstock have been enjoying some friendly, interest- ing games of bridge during the winter months. As well - these '"'gals" have been giving $2.00 per person per game - with the pro- ceeds going into the extension fund of Port Perry Hospital. Area mentioned above are a part of the Port Perry Marathon bridge - which was organized by Emmie Cox and Margaret Cornish who are resi- dents of the town. Due to the rugged weather con- ditions during the past winter the two groups separated and played bridge in their own areas. The Caesarea area girls were very pleased to turn in the amount of $144.00 to the Hospital Fund at the close of the season. We commend them for their generosity. Caesarea Euchre Results Scores for last Wed. evening card party are as follows: First prize wnt to Dawn Bayley - 80; Second - two tied for second place - Gwen Robins and Brenda Thistle - 76. Low - Muriel Simms - 47. A very nice turnout. Next week as usual for an interesting game of cards. Honoured by Masonic Order An honour of distinc- tion was conferred upon Mr. Stan McNeely, Will- iams Point, on Saturday last, in recognition of his many years of service and commitment to the Masonic Order - when Officers of Royal Arch Masons of Toronto Ant- iquity Chapter present- ed him with a 50 year Jewel. Those taking part in the presentation were Scribe William Dixon and Very Excell- ent First Principal Robert Topping, accom- panied by Most Excell- ent Companion William Sproule and - Very Excellent Companion John Kline - a past Grand Lodge Officer. These two gentlemen are members of the Order of the Eastern 'Star as well. The beauti- ful Jewel was a com- plete surprise and a real thrill - to Stan - and will be greatly treasured. Nestleton United Church Sunday morning service at Nestleton United saw a smaller congregation. Rev. Dale Davis kept the Sunday School youngsters on their toes with a fine story and treated them before retiring to class- es. Scripture was taken from Matthew 25: 14-30 and 1 Peter 4: 7-11 and his sermond was entitl- ed "God's Return on Investment" - dealing with talents. Every talent is needed and every talent grows with exposure so do not hide your God given talents. The choir sang 'Close To Thee' with the duet part taken by Regenia Walker and Bernice Mairs - led by organist Gwen Malcolm. Greet: ers at the door were: John and Ina Davis and family. Family Day Ser- vice next Sunday. Notices - 1. Next Friday evening, May 11 8 p.m. Marilyn Wallace of Port Perry will show slides of China - with commentary at Nestle- ton United Church. Families' Round And About Vic and Win Malcolm accompanied by grand- son Bradley, Nestleton, spent the weekend at Allen Park near Mar- mora in their Trailer. A lovely relaxed week- end! Guests at the Gra- hame Fish residence on Sunday were: Calvin and Yvonne Holland, Chad and Craig of Bowmanville, Jim and Audrey Leishman, Michael, Jamie and W.D. from Reaboro., and Marlene Bannister, Karen, Vicki, Calvin, Keith and friend Rhonda and Bob Martyn of Peterborough. Fred and Mabel Dayes of Nestleton, are thrilled to have son Clifford home from Drumbheller, Alta., for a two week period. On Thursday evening they visited brother Jim and Carol Dayes and family at Brooklin - Friday Fred and Clifford attended the Nestleton Smorgasbord - and Sun- day evening they went to Ashburn Burns Church to hear a Gospel Music Concert by '"The Torchmen" from St. Catherines - which was very much enjoyed. Clifford will - no doubt - have a full schedule visiting relatives and friends before he returns West. Hebert and Eugenia Hill, Whitby, were Sun- day dinner guests with daughter Regenia and David Walker, Avril and Kyle, Scugog Point. The Hills have just returned from an enjoyable six weeks visit to England - weather was ideal - and they had a great visit with relatives and friends. Mrs. Mabel Cawker attended the Honeydale Women's Institute Public Relations meet- ing, held in the Munici- pal Hall, Port Perry on Thursday last. Guests were invited and a fine programme was pre- sented by our P.R.O. Lillian Harper. New Pres. Clara Warren cap- ably handled the meet- with parents ing - a real pro! A fine afternoon of fun and fellowship. Luncheon guests with the Sam Cawkers on Sat. were Ken Bragg and Dan Girardi of Bowmanville. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The Nestleton Presby- terian Church had the usual congregation with Rev. Fred Swann taking his text from Matthew 28: theme - "The Impact of the Resurrection on the Disciples". A pre sentation of a wedding gift to Mr. and Mrs. Russel Brown - newly weds from Bowmanville was of interest. Mrs. Scott - organist. Next Sunday at 10 a.m. Caesarea Community Church A fair congregation on Sunday morning and Rev. W.H. Crawford D.D. continued with "The Resurection Story" text from Luke 24: 25. Mrs. Crawford - organist. The Sunshine Club meetings will terminate May 14th for the summer - and commence again in the good fall. Appreciation is extended to Director Jacqueline McDermott, who has done a great job for the youngsters! Spring Smorgasbord A Success The Spring Smorgas- bord held at Nestleton Community Centre on Friday evening sponsor- ed by the UCW of Nestleton United was a fine success. Trust everyone enjoyed the food and the friendly visits, with neighbours etc. Blue Ray Chapter Blue Ray Chapter 0.E.S. had a successful Bake sale and flea market on Saturday, held on the lawn at the Masonic Hall, Port Perry. Many from this area assisted. Lions Club News The Blackstock and District Lions Club (Cartwright) are plann- ing a flea market for May 26 and May 27 so "Folks" start cleaning out your attic, garage, etc. and give them a hand. The Lions Club provides a great service to the community - they are a committed organ- ization! Sympathy A former well known resident of Nestleton in his younger days and a part of the Cartwright Community - Mr. Wilton Creed of Barrie, passed away in Toronto Gen- eral Hospital og Thurs- day May 3. Th¢ funeral was held from §teckley - Gooderham Funeral Home in Barrie on Sat. at 2:30 a.m. Friends of the deceased Mrs. Ella Bowers and Betty Hicks from this area, accom- panied nephew Edgar and Anne Emerson to the funeral on Saturday. Our deepest sympathy to his loving wife Laura, son Emerson Creed and other members of the 'family.
