This superb choir has entertained extensively and is a real "'Show stopping" group under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Charles White. The O'Neill Jazz Choir has observed the PPHS group and striven to achieve at a compar- able level. This choir was very warmly rece- ived in October when they performed at the Town Hall 1873 fund "raising show "Reflec- tion". The choir is in its second year and was very fortunate to be invited to compete at the national festival along with PPHS. The National Cham- - pion for the past two years has been the Magee School Vocal Jazz En- semble of Vancouver. Magee, O'Neill and Port Perry will present a Vocal Jazz concert as outlined in the first paragraph. It is my opinion that this concert . Durham Secondary will be one of the finest high school concerts ever presented in the region. The quality of performance of Magee and Port Perry is nigh on profess- ional. The styles of the three groups are significantly different and indeed might be called trend setting. The concert will also individual showcase the Magee Senia Stage Band and Port Perry's own "Bar Four" Vocal Jazz Quar- tet; both of these groups are also competing in National Finals. Tickets will be avail- able at the door, $4.00 adults, $3.00 seniors and students. You will be amazed at what is being achieved at the high school level; Same old scare tactics (From page 5) was made in Ohio, U.S.A, a decision made by a non-Canadian who treated his Canadian employees like a ton of coal or a load of hay. This is the direct result of past Liberal and Conservative acquies- ance to branch plant ownership. The New Deomocrats advocate the develop- ment and refining of Canadian natural resources by a Canad- ... and every day! There's never been a better time than right now to say ... "You're Terrific Mom!" Right now at The Hair Shoppe we have some very special ways to pamper you and your mom. EN Tare \ ONL RUMEN h social dollar Saskatchewan ian work force employ- ed by Canadian owned companies. Canada for Candians is a political slogan that has been around for a long time but the political will to vigorously implement such a slogan has been sadly lacking by either of the old line parties. Mr. Morehouse false- ly refers to severe financial difficulties facing socialist or communist govern- ments. (Note the delibe- rate association of socialism with commun- ism, a usual scare tactic of the right sometimes referred to as Mec- Carthyism). Swedes with a social democratic government, enjoy a higher standard of liv- ing than do Canadians. In fact, the Swedes are presently upset because unemployment has risen to 3 per cent from the usual 1 per cent! The Social Demo- crats in West Germany didn't do a bad job either. It is under the present conservative government in West Germany that unem- ployment has risen. During the devastating- ly high interest rate period of two years ago when all European countries were begging the U.S. to curb its uncontrolled interest rates, Austria, another democratic country, was able to hold both its inflation rate and unemployment below 5 per cent. Canada and the U.S. were above 10 per cent. It is Canada and the U.S. operating under small conservative governments which have growing national debt and budgetary deficits. In Canada the New Democratic govern- ment in Saskatchewan had five successive balanced budgets and the provincial debt created by previous Liberal and Conserva- tive governments was all but paid off. By comparison Ontario produces five times the volume that does from its natural re- sources and after forty consecutive years of Tory government they have produced only one balanced budget. I ask who are the fuzzy financiers? Since the Devine Conserva- tives took over in Sask- atchewan, unemploy- ment has increased while Howard Pawley's NDP government has considerably lowered Manitoba's unemploy- ment rate. Canada would benefit by electing a New Democratic govern- ment that would imple- these three groups re- present the best of Canadian youth in the music field. Congratulations to Port Perry High School. I hope many of your: readers will be able to attend what we can only call a 'Celebration of Vocal Jazz'. With Highest Regards, Russ Baird, OCVI Music Dept. Head ment the kind of econ- omics that would pro- vide work and wealth in Canada. If that's fuzzy, then I'd like to try it. It sure beats what we've had so far. Yours sincerely, Roy Grierson, NDP Federal Candidate Durham Northumber- land. chatterbox (continued) Of course, my bosses are exceptions. Both of them would have entered but they couldn't since they were organizing the contest and were automatically disqualified. . I hope it was because of that. It was, wasn't it?
