14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 19, 1984 Classical guitar kicks off series '""There's nothing so rare as a day in June." Well, along with all the splendid June weather we have all been enjoy- ing recently, comes another June treat -- the 84-85 subscription series for Town Hall 1873. From the series that has brought you Maur- een Forrester, Peter Appleyard, Moe Kauf- man, the Shaw Festival, Billy Bishop Goes to War, the Huggett Family, Hagood Hardy, the Ontario Youth Choir, Tom Millar, Jazz- merize and much, much more, to the upcoming 84-85 season, to bringing a variety of the finest, affordable, professional entertainment to Port Perry and its environs. Which brings us to the 1984-85 season. The sea- son kicks off this year with some high-spirited flamenco, but tempered with some of the finest classical guitar music in North America. Norbert Kraft, the Grand Prize winner of the 1979 CBC Talent Competition, is accompanied by harpsi- chord and tenor. Sat- urday, September 15, 8:00 p.m. at Town Hall 1873. Then your intro to the Christmas season is one you will remember a long, long time. "'A Night at the Grand' is a musical revue on poli- tics, climbing the econ- omic ladder, piano recitals, love, the 12 Days of Christmas, and s ss SEX, that will have you chortling with glee and guffawing all night long. David Walden, singer-composer-enter- tainer, is aptly matched by his superb "Brun- hild""', Arlene Meadows, and the flying keyboard fingers of Howard Baer. Saturday, December 1, 8:00 p.m. at Town Hall 1873. To commemorate Ontario's bicentennial, Town Hall 1873 is bring- ing the Tapestry Sing- ers' Dominion Chaut- auqua. In the years following World War I, Canadians were enter- tained by Dominion Chautauquas - travell- ing tentshows which offered a dazzling array of singers, dancers, actors, etc. With the help of the best Canad- ian writers and singers, the Tapestry Singers have revised and updat- ed this kind of show to present an amusing and poignant look at distinc- tive aspects of Ontario life in the past 200 years. Friday, February 1, 1985, 8:00 p.m. at Town Hall 1873. And last, but definite- ly not least, is Port Perry's own Tom Millar in an entirely new show composed and written especially for Town Hall 1873, entitled, 'Tom, Dick and Who Needs Harry?" Friday, March 22, 1985, 8:00 p.m. The subscription series price remains the same this season as last and our aim is to sell 100 per cent of them. Tickets are available from any board member or by replying to the advertisement in this paper. Also, for the first time, the program committee is sponsoring a sales campaign with the kickoff on Tuesday, June 19 and a wrap-up wine and cheese on Wednesday, June 27.
