Gamblers win at home then lose by same score The Greenbank Gam- blers Fastball Club played twice last week and ended up by winn- ing at home and losing on the road. Last Monday night in Greenbank Park the Gamblers dropped Goodwood by a 4-2 score behind the steady 5 hit pitching of Roland Osske. Osske walked two batters and struck out seven to record the win and he also con- tributed two solid hits to the attack. Don Beaton was the big gun at the plate for Greenbank and went 3 Results from the Soccer Leagues Mosquito Flamingo Vachon)Port Perry) - 3; Gus Brown Whitby - 3. The remainder of the Gam- bler hits went to Greg Rodd, Trevor Till, Brian Till, Steve Foster, Don Phinney and Roddy Real. Len May and Barry Leask were the main threat for Goodwood as they collected two hits each. On Thursday night the team travelled to Zephyr to play the Zephyr '"A"s and came out on the short end of a 4-2 final score. The Gamblers jump- ed on Zephyr starter Tom Sweet for two quick runs in the top of the first inning when Greg Rodd drew a walk, Neil Rodd singled and Don Beaton walked to load the bases. John Foster doubled to right field to score a pair of runs and the Gamblers had a quick 2-0 lead. However, after the first inning the Greenbank team could not get - another run over the plate while Zephyr pick- ed up two in the first and two in the sixth for the 4-2 win. Each team had six hits but Zephyr bunched 3 of theirs together in the sixth inning and combined with an errant throw cost the Gamblers the win. Ken Goreski, who has been outstanding this season on the Green- bank mound lost his first game in league play. The Greenbank hits went to Brian Lee (with a long triple to left), Neil Rodd, Trevor Till, Don Beaton, John Foster and Don Phinney. At a league meeting last week, the Uxbridge Community Fastball League threw a curve at the Gambler team when they instituted a new rule stating that any pitcher who has played intermediate '"'A" Fast- ball or up (eg. Senior '""A'" or Senior "B") must sit out one full year of pitching before being eligible to play in the Uxbridge league. This meant that Russ 3 y TROPHIES * 0 and I ENGRAVING | DO-NO's RECORD, CRAFT fi g & HOBBY WORLD Queen St, Port Perry | 985-2839 8 J ES -N PORT PERRY MINOR SOFTBALL PARADE Korbak who is playing with the Greenbank team can not pitch in the Uxbridge league this year and his contri- bution to league play will be as pinch hitter or designated hitter. However, the Scugog Island resident is still eligible for 0.A.S.A. play with the Gamblers and of course all tourna- ments and exhibition games. The ruling was a set back for the Greenbank team and a disappoint- ment for the veteran pitcher but of course the Gambler team must abide by the league \ decision. Every Monday night is fastball night at Greenbank Park and Gambler fans should see some fine action at 8:30 every week. | H n LT o, THT) H - RB ---- Over 90 golfers played in the first annual Re/Max tournament held Saturday at the Pine Ridge Club in Port Perry with the Mike McQuade foursome coming out on top with a score of 220 (best three of four scores over 18 holes).
