Their many friends con- tinue to hope for as rapid a recovery as possible. At the United Church service on Sunday morn- ing, the dedication of the memorial window, "Let the Children Come Unto Me' to the glory of God given in loving memory of Wallace Marlow and Clara (Heaslip) Marlow by the family took place. The junior choir sang "What Do I Have?" as the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was celebrated. Rev. D. Davis' sermon was on the theme *'Only Bread." Next Sunday morning the Blackstock Church will hold a combined ser- vice at 10:30 a.m. at the farm of Roy and Edith McLaughlin. Bring your favourite lawn chair. Feel free to bring your picnic lunch for a fellowship meal after the service. Coffee will be provided! Following the service, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Thompson hosted a fami- ly gathering. Guests were Mrs. Wallace Marlow of Hillsdale Manor, Whitby, Jim and Dorothy Marlow, Blackstock, Ann Marlow of Barrie, Dr. Jack and Marion Marlow, Dundas and their daughter Patricia and Brian Wilson and baby Dean- na, Clara and Ewart Leask and their daughter Ellen of Barrie |, Elizabeth Dowson, An- drew and Leslie of Whit- by, Bill and Sandra Thompson, Blackstock, Larry and Susan Latta, Port Perry, Dorothy and John Venning, Blackstock. Janice and Garry Beechey spend the weekend in Paris to help his parents celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. On Wednesday even- ing, Noreen Malcolm and her daughter Mary Lou Kellogg hosted. a bridal shower in honour of bride-to-be = Kelly McLaughlin. After Kelly who was assisted by her sister Janis St. John and her sister-in-law to-be Jackie Gatchell, opened her many lovely gifts, she thanked everyone in the customary manner. Noreen and Mary Lou served a very tasty lunch. Kelly with the guest of honour at another shower to be held at the United Church on July 15. Everyone is welcome to attend. Louise Taylor of Calgary arrived on Saturday evening to spend a holiday with her parents Richard and Ruby Van Camp. Lois, Lawrence, Brian and Jill and to attend her sister's wedding next Saturday. Mr. Morrow, Ruby's father, also has been spending some time with the Van Camp family since he injured his back in the spring. Mrs. Alba Currie and Mrs. Vera Warmington of Beaverton, sisters of Mr. Grant Thompson and a long time friend of the family, Mrs. Agnes Leam from Blackpool England spent Wednes- day with Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thompson. The Salad and Strawberry Supper at the United Church on Friday was a fine suc- cess with abundant food and a great crowd of hungry people. The sixth annual Edgerton Picnic was held at the Blackstock Community Centre on Sunday, June 24th. Over 60 people sat down to a picnic lunch. Following "lunch, a social time was enjoyed by all with enter- tainment provided by Howard and Jean Edger- ton of Scarborough. Quite a number of local residents attended the annual Decoration Ser- vice at Pine Grove Cemetery at Prince Albert on Sunday afternoon. Winners of the weekly card party on Tuesday evening were: 1. Myrtle Gimblett- 84; 2. Dorothy Edwards- 79; 3. Marion Bell- 7,8; 4. Anne Manns- 78; 5. Eunice Ego- 77; 6. Will Forder- 76; Low- Edith Burgess. The draws were won by 1. Ethel Goble; 2. Leshe Taylor and 3. Weir Swain. There have been some inquiries about getting copies of the Pen and Ink drawings of the High School by Sandra Thompson that was pre- sent recently to Gordon Paisley. Before pro- ceeding on with such a venture, it is needed to know how much serious interest there is. Denis and Jo McLaughlin and their son Aaron of Montreal are visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy McLaughlin and visiting other relatives in the area. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm who became grand- parents again when Mary Lou and David Kellogg presented them with a new grand- daughter Janelle Mary. Many of the local Junior Farmers were very busy over the weekend, working at their food booth at the Thistle Valley Tractor Pull, Bowmanville. On Father's Day, about 35 relatives gathered at Bob and Nancy Bryan's and en- joyed the 14th annual pjc- nic of the descendants of the late May and Morley Scugog Island (From page 24) in this busy haying season. Of course, the piles of dirt are not too attractive but it may need 2 or 3 weeks to settle. Some of the young boys have already offered their services to complete it and I'm sure they would appreciate more help from their age group. We'll let you know when you may come. We are always touch- ed over the tragedies that occur from week to week and especially so when we are acquainted with families who have suffered or lost loved ones. One recent one was the sailing vessel race. At present we are thinking of Mr. Ed Broder of Fralick's Beach who lost a prom- ising young grandson, Janis (John) Edgar Gravlejs who had just finished University as a engineer. He loved sail- ing and joined the sail- ing crew on the Marques which was struck by a freak wind and sank in 45 seconds taking 18 people with it. "Head" ladies, don't forget help and food for "Pioneer Days" this coming weekend. The Institute Auction is gaining interest for collection of donations July 14 and the centre of action at the Commun- ity Hall the following Saturday. Your yellow fliers give you all the information. Last Monday Nancy Bryans attended the Opening of her mother Babe Brown's show of collection of scrapbooks and antiques shown at the Revenue Building, Oshawa. This show has continued through until Tuesday of this week. Patti and Rick Alpe have visited his father Mr. Arturo Alpe several times this past week dur- inghis stay in Hamilton Hospital. Mr. Alpe under went surgery to receive a pacemaker. On Saturday, about 30 relatives and friends at- tended the barbecue at the home of Gord and Deb Bryans to celebrate Leanna's first birthday.
