With the teams in the Junior C loop playing a reduced 28 game sche- dule this season, Mar- quis says that practise time will be crucial to a club's success, and he will "expect players to have a very good excuse if they are unable to attend a practice. It was the first meet- ing of the season between these two clubs, one which many fastball fans in the area had been looking for- ward to as several Prince Albert players, including pitcher Ken Irvine are former members of the Gam- blers squad. , A large crowd was on hand under the lights to see the two teams play a scoreless ball through four innings until the Gamblers struck for two in the home half of the fifth. John Foster started off the inning by making it to first on a third strike passed ball. But that was just the beginning of what was to happen in the bottom of the sixth as the Gamblers sent ten batt- ers to the plate and chalked up seven runs to blow the game wide open. Don Beaton got things going with a line drive homer to left centre with the bases empty. Then with Brian Till and Greg Rodd on base, Brian Lee stroked a single to score two more and make it 5-0. Goreski hit a long triple followed by a walk to Neil Rodd and a double by Steve Foster which scored two more runs. Hugh Johnson ground out to score another and then Beaton slammed a hit to deep right which the fielder got a glove on but could not hold. Beaton wound up on third. Irvine got the third out when he fanned Brian Till, but the damage had been done and Haugens went down in order in the top of the 7th to end the game. Port Perry Wh While the Gambler bats put the runs on the board, pitcher Ken Gor- eski turned in a master- ful performance as he struck out 11 and allow- ed just two Haugen hits. He kept the ball low in the strike zone and consistently hit the corners. The only time Goreski was in serious trouble was the top of the first when Haugens loaded the bases with one out after an infield hit, a walk and a hit by On Tuesday June 26, the Canadian Tire Juniors hosted the Mount Albert Mounties and walked away with a 9-6 win.
