At 10:00 a.m. the children's activities begin at the rear of the library where numerous races and events will be taking place. In ad- dition to this, inside the library a puppet show will get underway about 10:30am. + Always a crowd pleaser, the annual Mutt Show will take place in front of the Royal Bank on Queen Street. This event will be run for the Chamber of Commerce this year by Doreen Kendall, who is always able to add some wit and life to the event with her humorous comments. Another popular event, at least for the audience, is the Super- star contest and it will once again take place on the stage in front of the Post Office. This event, which has traditionally been held on Friday, has been changed to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday this year and with a whole new line-up of "Stars", should provide some great entertainment. Other events taking place during the day in- clude Stew Garland"s magic, Giant Bingo, nament at the soccer pitches, and a street dance. In the evening, the one and only Ronnie Hawkins will be ap- pearing on stage at the Scugog Arena. The 'Hawk' as he is known, has been a legend in music for the past 20 years. This is one show you will not want to miss. Dance commen- ces at 8:00 p.m. and Hawkins, plus another group '"'Pearl City" will make this an evening you won't forget for a long time. SUNDAY, JULY 15 Although Western Days activities are of- ficially over on Satur- day night there are a few events taking place on Sunday that are of in- terest. The Ridge Runner Truck Club is spon- soring a Mini Tractor Pull at the Fairgrounds beginning at 1:30 p.m. ; both the Midget Ball and Soccer Tournaments continue in their respec- tive places, and the midway will be operating all day for the kids enjoyment. Make it a point to take in some of the many ac- tivities taking place this week. You won't regret it. S., Oshawd 725-5181 Durham Region Police said Tuesday morning that charges are pending against a 25-year old Caesarea man who allegedly ran a red light early Friday in Courtice, struck a second vehicle, killing an Oshawa woman. Police superintendent Trevor McCagherty told the Star the entire incident, including the pursuit of the Caesarea man by a Regional police officer, is still under investigation. The dead woman has been identified as 52 year old Dulcie Mec- Leary of Oshawa. Her 31 year old son Michael is in serious condition in a Toronto hospital. The driver of the other car, Timothy Pearce of Caesarea was listed in serious but stable cond- ition Tuesday morning in Sunnybrook Hospital. According to Regional Police, the incident began early Friday morning when a car went through police radar on Durham Road 57 in Bowmanville. Police officer Karen Moloney pursued the car onto Highway 401 eastbound to Courtice Road and then north to Highway 2 where the accident took place. Superintendent Mc- Cagherty said it appears as if Constable Moloney acted in an "appropriate manner" in pursuing the car and trying to get the driver to stop. i Ys. x x ar re He said the pursuit did not involve high speeds and the car was travell- ing about 60 km-hr., when the accident occurred at the inter- section. Several charges are pending against Mr. Pearce, and it is expect- ed that the police invest- igation into the incident will be completed by the end of this week.
