Playground activity winds down PORT PERRY Playground is quickly coming to an end. We've accomplished quite alot in the past five weeks. Such as craft work, cake raffle, walk-a-thons and our playday . in Blackstock which was a great success, for our playground won first prize which was a delicious chocolate cake. Speaking of delicious cakes, Mr. Baxter of Port Perry, won our Black Forest Cake Raf- fle last week. Moving along into the future, we had our walk- a-thon. All proceeds will go towards our trip to the zoo and also our par- ty on Friday Aug.10. This trip to Peter- borough Zoo is on Wed- nesday, August 8 for the day. We have a problem in this respect, however, as we desperatley need the help of the children's parents - we only have 2 mothers that have offered to help but we won't be going to the zoo at all if no more parents are willing to come. Port Perry Playground has 50 children aproximately going to the zoo with only 5 leaders so please join in and have fun with us as well as your children - we will deeply apreciate your support. BLACKSTOCK BY Carol, Nancy and Virginia We've had such fun together And had some real good times And were not even writing this 'Just because it rhymes! The Kids have all been great And all the parents too And here's a thanks to everyone From all of us to you. Now the playgrounds through And we'll see you all next year You will see all the fun Surely, it's all right here. Last week the children enjoyed many exciting events. On Wednesday, all of the playgrounds assembled at the Blackstock Rec. "Centre for a playday. Blackstock Playground won 2nd and 3rd prizes in the 8 event playday. Congratulations teams! On Wed. Aug. 8th, we will be venturing to On- tario Place by bus. It shall prove to be both challenging and fun- filled. However, this is our last week of playground and a large thanks is for the great summer and due to the children and parents of Blackstock Thank-You! See you all next year...here at Blackstock Rec. SCUGOG ISLAND BY Vanessa, Pauline and Kim Welcome again to the continuing series of "The Young and The Innocent". It's hard to believe that playground is only a week away from coming to a close for another year. But, just because it's near - the end doesn't mean we couldn't find more ex- citing events to pass the 5th week. We began the week with a trip to Mother's Pizza Parlour. They took us through the kit- chen and we were all very impressed with the way in which the pizza was made. After- wards they fed us pizza that was magically delicious. On Wed- nesday, we had our seasonal Play Day. Everyone that par- ticipated enjoyed them- selves tremendously. Our bake sale was suc- cessful. And the hot dog sale went over well. On Thursday, we also went on a nature walk and GUARANTEED INVESTMENT CERTIFICATES -- Annual Rates -- 3 YEARS 4 YEARS 5 YEARS -- MORTGAGES BOUGHT & SOLD -- Rates subject to change without notice. Stay tuned for part six - "The Final Chapter'. GREENBANK BY Michelle, Heather and Sheila It's hard to believe but . Playground is almost over - actually by the time this hits the press Playground will be in its last week! The summer has flown by! July 31 we held our cake raffle. The lucky winner of the Smurf Cake (created and donated by Lila Clarkson) was Sarah Miller. Congratulations Sarah - don't eat it all at once! Jay Tredway sold the winning ticket. We decided that the person who sold the winning ticket should also get a prize - so Jay was presented with his own cake from the playground staff. The person . who sold the most tickets was Simone Clarkson and she too received a cake from the staff. (A special thanks to Michelle who baked the cakes). At this point we would like to express our sin- cere appreciation to everyone who sold tickets and to all those people who bought the tickets - your support was greatly apreciated - Thank You! Now that all of our fundraising is over, we are ready for our big trip. We are going to Pleasure Valley and plan on having a rip- roaring great time! Look out Pleasure Valley - Greenbank Playground is coming - it'll never be the same again. Everything at Playground is running really smoothly. We are still going swimming, watching the puppet show, watching movies and eating popcorn and drinking kool aid. (Yes, while stimulating their brains, we also stimulate their taste buds). If you haven't been to Playground yet, maybe you can make the last week and come have some fun with us! A special "Thank- you' to Michelle and Heather who kept things running smoothly during my absence. Thanks girls. PRINCE ALBERT by Kathleen Taylor and Maureen Adams Well this is it, the last week of playground 1984. The theme for this week is Western Week so the residents of the Prince Albert area needn't worry if they see a band of Indians decorated with war paint running towards them. It will only be our playground members playing a game of cowboys and Indians This week we will also be going on our 'Big Trip" to Canada's Won- derland. Our excursion is on Thursday, August 9 and everyone is really looking forward to it. On the last day of Playground, Friday, August 10th, we will be having a party for the kids complete with par- ty games, cake and ice cream. Last week was Holiday Week and we celebrated a different holiday each day. Mon- day was Halloween and the kids performed a trick and got a treat. On Tuesday, Valentine's - Day, we made a heart- shaped chococlate cake. Wednesday we went to Blackstock to par- ticipate in Playday. On Thursday we celebrated Easter and the Easter Bunny left some goodies for the kids. Friday was Christmas and each child received a present from Santa's helpers. Maureen and I would like to thank all of the parents for their help and support over the past six weeks. We hope that the rest of the summer and all of next year is safe and suc- cessful for everyone. Mz i Oe hh .-_e_™_a at PINE RIDGE 4 MILES EAST - PORT PERRY on 7A HIGHWAY 986-4932 PACKERS LTD.
