October 10, 1984 -- 9 Parent Assoc. meets Another year has started for the Parent- Teacher Association of R.H. Cornish School with the first meeting being held on Sept- ember 11, 1984. There was a report from the Fund Raising Committee, first on the success of last year's projects and secondly on the proposed projects for this coming year. This year's campaign for selling chocolate bars will take place on October 4th through 12th. Hot dog days will again be featured this year beginning towards the end of October. This not only provides funds - for special school needs but also gives the children a chance to have a hot lunch at school one day each week. Milk sales are underway and the cool- er for the milk is in good repair now. The Traffic Comm- ittee hopes to have the steel posts in place soon at the south exit to Scugog St. so that the children can have an extra measure of pro- tection from the bus traffic there. Install- ation of the posts has been approved but at the time of the meeting had not been installed. The Principal, Mr. H. Keizebrink, reported on various matters includ- ing the absence of some supplies and text books for school opening because shipments were delayed. All necessary materials for students to use such as paper and pencils are supplied by the school up to and including Grade 8 so that it shouldn't be necessary for parents to supply any. Enrollment this year is approx- imately 976. There are two Librarians this year and a new program has been introduced called "Partners in Action'. Let's hope that we can li encourage children to read books, not only for education but also for pure enjoyment. The next meeting of the Association is on October 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the South Gymnas- ium, and will be the Annual Meeting at which time new Execu- tive Board members will be elected and Annual Financial Reports received. If you are interested in servin on the Board of Direct- ors, please contact the school. Each parent of a child attending the school is automatically a member of the Assoc- iation and may attend any and all meetings. There are no fees. If you have any concerns which you would like to have discussed at a meeting, please feel free to attend and bring them to the attention of the Association. Meet- ings are held on the second Thursday of the month, in the school library at 7:30 p.m.
