Bantam B's snare two Sportsland Bantam B's picked up 2 victories this past week as they nipped Whitby-Brooklin 2-1, on Tuesday night, then by the same 2-1 score Friday night they defeated Pickering H.A. This young team nas made great improve- ment in the last couple of games, but special credit for Tuesday's game goes to our goalie Ricky King who played fantastic between the pipes. After a slow and scrambly first period, Port took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Robbie Brown assisted by line mates Blair Bailey and Kevin Gibson. Momentum picked up in the next period, but it was not until the final four minutes when Joe Jack- man unassisted, scored on a shot from the blue line. Whitby connected for their only goal with three seconds remain- ing in the period. Sports- land could not capitalize on Whitby's twleve minutes in penalties in the third period, but did manage to hold Whitby off the score board for the final minute as they elected to go with six attackers. 2-1 Victory Sportsland Bantam B's encountered the hardest hitting team to date when they played Pickering H.A. on Fri- day night. With end to end play and excellent scoring opportunities by both teams, the first period remained score- less. Excellent penalty killing by Port in the second kept Pickering off the scoreboard. With only 1:15 remaining i the second period a power play goal by Daryl Leatherdale gave Sportsland a 1-0 lead, Robbie Jamieson after controlling the play from the corner and making a super pass picked up a well earned assist. Pickering evened the score in the final period, which turned out to be more aggressive than the first and second. Port regained the lead at the 6:07 ark when Kevin Gibson scored after picking up a rebound shot from Blair Bailey. Pickering pulled their goalie in the final seconds of play, but Sportsiand held onto their 2-1 victory. Ricky King played another strong game in net. This team should do well this year as it has plenty of good skaters and scorers, so come out and support the Midget No.1 and Minor Hockey. AERA PAS J 5 TA Pe SI oF 5 TART N a PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. October 30, 1984 -- 21 Port broomball results Oddfellows - 4 Emmersons - 1 Oddfellows are stick- ing close to Utica and Goreski's so far to date as they won their third game of the young season, by ..downing Emmersons 4-1. It didn't take them long to get started as on the power play just over 2 minutes into the game, Dan McKee set up Doug Prescott for the opener. Approximately four minutes thereafter while playing short- handed, Bill Bridge rifl- ed a shot into the Emmersons net after being fed by Brian Pomeroy. While on a power play of their own early in the second Emmerson's came to within one as Charlie Dennis connected with Danny Brown. On the ensuing faceoff at centre Bridge and Mc- Kee found themselves on a two on one which Bridge converted for the 2 goal bulge. Emmer- son's then had one called back due to a player in the crease before Pomeroy assist- ed Phil Robinson for the clincher. Pee Wee B's downed 8-0 The Port Perry Pee 'Wee No.2's were at home on Sat. Oct. 26 and played against Picker- ing. The team were dressed in their new sweaters and looked very sharp. Thanks Stone Real Estate! The first period started off fast with good checking and passing from both sides. David Buxcey started in goal for the Stones and allowed only 1 goal in the first period. In the 2nd period, Pickering team really got rolling and scored 3 more goals, one scored on a power play. Throughout the period the Stones were caught out of position, thus making it impossible to get out of their own end and put any pressure on the Pickering squad. David Talbot took over the net halfway through the period and in the last minute made 4 beautiful catch saves. Pickering scored 4 more goals in the third period. Although the final score was 8-0, the Stones showed a definite improvement over their previous game. A nice catch was made by Jason Towns from the bench as a shot was fired at our bench. Our team just needs a few breaks and a little luck and we'll be rolling. We have an exhibition game Thursday evening against Bowmanville and hopefully we'll spark. Our next home game is Sat. Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. against Mark- ham. Novice Stars look better each game The Pearce Auction- eers had a busy week- end hosting the Oshawa Bruins Friday night and then travelling to Cobourg Sunday after- noon. On Friday, the Novice No.1 kept the Bruins scoreless during the first period. Port's defensive team of Gavin Carnegie, Tom Dur- ward, Graham Holt, Andrew Jones and Jay King played a strong game, keeping the Bruin's score low allow- ing only 2 goals in the latter part of the second period. No additional scoring was done in the third period, ending the game with Port down 2-0. On Sunday afternoon in Cobourg, the Novice No.1 were down 2 goals when Port's Clay Scott put one between the pipes with assists going to fellow linesman Scott Heasman and Greg Thompson. Port came out hustl- ing in the second and quickly tied it up with an unassisted marker by Kenton LeFort. The goaltending of Mike Pashley and Brent Harper was certainly a job well done as their skills were brought to the test often by the Cobourg team. The third period saw Cobourg netting 2. The offensive line of Mike Labanovich, Brett Law- son and Sandy Mark played all out having several attacks on the Cobourg net minder. But Port failed to count in the 3rd ending the game with a 4-2 defeat. This young team is certainly improving with each game and we look forward to seeing them in their 3rd league game against Pickering Friday November 2 at 8 p.m. Utica - 4 Goreski's - 0 The battle for first place turned out to be a rather tainted affair between these two clubs as goaltender Kevin Beer of Goreski's was ejected shortly into the second period. Goreski's thought they had the game started midway through the first only to have the goal waved off as the result of a player in the crease. Utica did notch their first goal by the end of the period while sporting a two man advantage when Bill Down scored on a scramble at the front of the net. With Mark Lee off at this time for a major penalty, and with the addition of Beer's, Utica beat replacement goaler Dave Dickson as Scott Dezan converted from Ken Fraser. While short-handed, Mike Mitchell and Bill Down connected to make it 3-0 Utica. With three sec- onds left and sporting another power play, Chester Down fed Hebert for the final tally. Beacocks - 3 Brian's -1 Blackstock picked up their first win of the season to get into the middle of the standings. It took ten minutes before Ron Redman hit Ron Wagg at the front of the net for the opener. Brian's didn't roll over and die as they came back early in the second to tie it as Jim O'Neill converted from Tom Powell. Thirty seconds later Ron Wagg aided Rick Alpe to put Bea- cock's back in the lead again to stay this time. While on the ice for the same shift and less than one minute later the same two clicked again to put the icing on the ~ake.
