Sportsland jumped out to a 3-1 lead early on goals by John Foster, Dave Lourgeois and Wayne Norton only to see their lead disappear by Larocque snipers. Doug Suppelsa and Keijo Kinnunen each had a goal and an assist to lead Larocque's game, but was espe- cially brilliant in the third period as the Chiefs swarmed to the attack. He made 13 stops in the final frame, most of them quality scoring chances, and had a little help from the goalie's best friend as the Chiefs rattled at least three shots off the Arena. Wallace had one goal and a strong game killing penalties, but the stand-out for Port Perry was Clay Lovering who faced many tough shots in the MoJacks goal. attack. Larocque's other scorers - Ken Little, Bill Jeffrey and Wayne Taylor. Assists - Ken Little, Kevin Reid and Jim Beatty. Sportsland's assists to Dave Bourgeois, John Atoms open league with a 4-1 victory On Friday Nov. 2 the Ma. nont Farms Atoms travelled to Cobourg for their first league action game against this club and came away with a 4-1 victory. In the second period assistant captain Jeff Parry scored with the assist going to Duane Empringham. In the third period with only seconds left in the game Brad Moase notched his second goal of the night with the assist going to Peter King. J&D Carpentry - 4 Crandells - 2 Bob Tarbotton of J&D had his finest game of the season leading his team with 2 goals and 1 ps in the game with" the score tied at 5-5, Lovering preserved the single point when he stopped a clear break- away with a sliding pad save. The game was an entertaining affair right from the opening face- off with both teams sticking to hockey for the most part. A couple of minor tussles didn't amount to much. The Chiefs took a 1-0 lead at 13:39 when Mike Teapstra scored on a two on one break, but the MoJacks tied it at 18:14 on a power play effort by Mike Ryan who was set up in front by Jeff Johnstone and Paul Butterworth. Just 21 seconds later, the Chiefs scored again on a two on one break with Brad McFadden getting the goal. Mo- Jacks had a wide margin of play in the first period, thanks mainly to a string of Lakefield penalties. Early in the second, MoJacks tied it when Jeff Duncan jammed a puck between the post and the goaltender's pad. It just barely got across the red line. But the Chiefs went ahead 3-2 a couple of minutes later when the MoJacks had trouble clearing the puck from their own end and Gord Davey found himself all alone at the side of the net. MoJacks took advan- tage of a double penalty local Mens League assist. J&D's other scorers: Dennis Lycett and Dan Carty. Assists going to Dan Carty, John Delorme, Doug Bache, Joe Curran and Tim Kane. Crandell"s goals scored by Greg Roberts unassisted and Neil Mc- Laughlin assisted by Greg Roberts ard Mar- vin Stevenson. B.J. Donuts and Smith Contracting battled to a 3-3 tie. Smith Contracting held a 3-1 lead with 2 minutes and 9 seconds left on the clock when Larry Jackson netted B.J's second goal assisted by Randy Logan amd Mike Creighton. With 35 sec- onds left, Al Bonner scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 3. to the Chiefs at 8:19 when Scott Wallace slapped in his own rebound at the side of the crease, and at 15:29, Port Perry owned a short-lived lead for the first time in the game. With the MoJacks playing short-handed, Rob Nicholson snared an errant pass inside the Chiefs line and fed Rob Sedore in the slot where he banked a shot off the left post. But Lakefield took just 16 seconds to tie the score at 4-4 when Chris Palmer beat Lovering with a shot from 25 feet out. Just before the end of the second, Brian Nicholson and Paul Butterworth put Mo- Jacks ahead 5-4 as they combined on a nifty two-way passing play in the Chief zone with Nicholson finishing off the play. Lakefield came out in the third period with a strong attack and were it not for the efforts of Lovering would have easily walked away with the game. The Chiefs got the equalizer at 12:40 with Davey finding a re- bound after Lovering had made the initial save on a two on one break. For the MoJacks, Scott Wallace turned in a fine game and was especially effective kill- ing penalties late in the second period. Rookie Kevin Trapp saw plenty B.J. Donut's other goal was scored by Al Bonner, assisted by Ron Hoogeboom. Smith's goals by of action along the blue line. He slid to block a hard slap shot and took the puck in the mid- section. He had to be helped from the ice, but returned to action and had a pretty good game. The same two teams squared off in Lakefield Friday night in what was an old-fashioned shoot-out. The teams were knotted at 8-8 when Chiefs Gord Davey scored the winner at 16:50 of the final frame to give his squad a 9-8 win. For the MoJacks, Brian Nicholson con- tinued to provide a lot of scoring punch as he rapped in four goals. Singles went to John Vaz, Jeff Duncan and Dean Smith. Jeff John- stone also had a single along with three assists and Paul Butterworth helped on four goals. The tie Sunday even- ing gives the MoJacks five points on two wins and a tie. The team has taken four losses, but only one of those has been what might be considered a bad game. That was against Port Hope a week ago Sun- day. The Panthers are currently in first place in the Central Junior C loop. MoJacks pay a visit to Lindsay this Friday evening for a game against the struggling Muskies and will host the Cobourg Cougars this Sunday night (Nov- ember 11) at the Scugog Arena with face off set for 7:30 p.m. Bruce Smith (2) and Greg Heffering.
