Beaverton made the score 4 to 3 for the Lakers and with 3 seconds left and a key face off in the Port end and Dave Mann won the draw for the Lakers and that iced the victory. 'Nowhere to go but up for MoJacks against the Cougars Sunday night and could have won the game had it not been for several defensive errors. The Cougars got on the score sheet first at 15:26 of the first period when the MoJacks coughed up a puck at the blue line and Andy Hickerson breezed in alone on Clay Lovering who managed to get a piece of the hard shot. Cobourg made it 2-0 at 17:34, taking advantage of a problem that has plagued the MoJacks all season: failure to clear the attackers away from the net. Cougars were on a power play when John Thompson found a loose puck in front and whipped a wrist shot past Lover- ing. MoJacks managed to get one back before the end of the opening period as Mike Ryan took passes from Brian Nicholson and Scott Wallace on the power play and he found the range from in front of the Cougar netminder. At 6:08 of the second, MoJacks tied the score at 2-2 on a pretty passing play between Paul Butterworth and + John Vaz. Butterworth broke quickly in on the right side and put a nice pass back to Vaz who was in the slot and he slapped the puck up under the cross bar. Jeff Johnstone also drew an assist. Late in the second period, MoJacks put on their best offensive per- formance of the evening while on the power play. They buzzed around in the Cougar end getting several quality scoring chances but were un- able to get the puck past Rob Turland. Finally, Scott Wallace scooted around" a Cob- ourg defenseman, cut across the goal crease and slid the puck under a falling Turland. Ryan and newcomer Jeff Mc- Coll drew assists on the play and it gave the MoJacks a 3-2 lead for the first time in the match. But Cougars knotted the score at 3-3 at 6:57 when Andy Hickerson found himself set up in the slot with not a MoJack within ten feet of him. And at 9:04, Ray Murphy gave his team the winning goal when he pumped in a rebound. In an effort to get the tying goal, MoJack coach Bob Marquis yanked Lovering with just under a minute remaining, but the Cou- gars held on to preserve the victory. This was a pretty well played hockey game with just a handful of minor penalties called. There was a minor skirmish at the closing bell but order was quickly restored before any serious damage occurred. MoJacks appear to have found a solid player in Jeff McColl, a late cut from the Oshawa Junior B's. He's a very fluid skater, can handle the puck well and is not afraid to mix it up. But the major pro- blem the team has had so far this season is loose play in their own zone. If they can tighten up, the MoJacks should be able to get back on the winning track. They have a tough test ahead of them this weekend as Bowman- ville Eagles visit the Scugog Arena on Sat- urday evening with face off at 8:00 P.M. There will be no game on the Sunday evening this week. Next Monday night (November 19) the MoJacks made the long road trip to Cobourg where they will be trying to avenge the loss on the weekend. Bantams nip Port Hope 2-1 On Friday November 9th, the Port Perry Bantam A's travelled to Port Hope. The scoring started early in the first period as Jeff Oke made a neat deke on the goalie and put it in the net, assisted by Brad Menzies and Warren Geer. Philip McBride made a beautiful pass to Mark Barkey which _ Jesulted in a goal. Nice pass Phil! The third goal came in the third period, unfortunately for the wrong team. This ended the scoring for the rest of the game. The final score was 2-1 in favour of Port Perry. Good game guys! The Bantams next game is on Wednesday Nov- ember 14th. So come on out and cheer the team on to another victory! NR aR se ¢, ro ad ec dren
