Sympathy is extended to his wife the former Jane Passant who also was a Cart- wright girl and their family, to his mother, Mrs. Muriel Lawrence, to Jane's sister, Mary and Larry Mackie and family as well as to other relatives and friends in the area. The first Curling Bon- spiel of the season took place at the local arena on Saturday when a mixed Bonspiel was sponsored by Keith's Flowers of Uxbridge. Twelve teams enjoyed a day of keen curling on the excellent ice provid- ed by Icemakers Bob Strong and Vernon Sutton. Following the curling a delicious ham dinner was prepared and served by the A.C.W. Ladies. Club President Harold Wright expressed the appreciation to the sponsor and then announced the overall winner was the rink skipped by Vern Assle- stine, Mae and Jim Smitherman, and Eliz- abeth Kelly. Top team in the second draw which stood second were Keith and De Van Camp, Scott Howey and Cindy Werry. Second place in the early draw were Neil and Kathy McLaughlin, Grant and Heather McLaughlin. Second in the late draw were Roger and Elaine Porter, Sean Porter, Debbie McCracken. Following the present- ation of these prizes, the evening concluded with dancing to the music of D.J. Glen Howsam. Caroline Carnaghan played the part of Mrs. Hardcastle in the play "She Stoops to Conquer" at the Brock University Theatre in St. Catherines. Mrs. John Carnaghan and Murray attended the production on Thursday night. On Tuesday evening Nancy Bryans attended a Courtice Ladies Ball Reunion at Courtice High School. About 40 ladies and three men coaches ffom 1920's to the present attended. Even a score book and uniform from 1923 were displayed. It was so nice to see those from the past. When Nancy play- ed in the 50's the teams in the league were Orono, Newcastle, New- tonville and of course, Courtice. Bob also coached in the early 60's but did not attend.
