The ten selected in- clude youth delegates Peter Locke from Ux- bridge and Lee Murray of Brock, who is current president of the YPC's for York-Durham riding. The others who will be voting when the Ontario Tories choose a new leader January 24-26 in Toronto are: Sheila Adams of Pickering, per- sonal secretary to York- Durham MPP Ross Stevenson; Simone Lus- ty of Brock; Pam Gillespie of East Gwillimbury, both long time party supporters; Helen Podbura of Ux- bridge, treasurer of the riding association; Jim Wood of Uxbridge, a member of the local PC Santa parade delights kids The weather was more like Thanksgiving than Christmas for the 1984 version of the Santa Claus Parade which made its way through downtown Port Perry on Saturday afternoon. But the balmy temp- eratures probably help- ed to bring out the crowds which lined Queen Street for what many believe was the largest parade ever in this community. The parade attracted 55 entries, including nine marching bands who filled the warm air with the sounds of Christmas. Many of the floats were a visual delight with colourful costumes (Turn to page 2) association executive; Bill Newman of Picker- ing, former MPP for the riding; Bob Bailey of Brock and Murray Walker of Georgina, also on the local riding executive. Five of .the eight delegates remained un- committed last week as to which leadership can- didate they would sup- port, but Sheila Adams will be voting for treasurer Larry Grossman as will Mr. Bailey. Mr. Newman said he would be suppor- ting Frank Millar. York-Durham MPP Ross Stevenson is automatically a voting delegate at the conven- tion and he announced two weeks ago that he will be supporting Mr. Grossman. Mr. Steven- son is Parliamentary assistant to Mr. Grossman in the legislature. There will be no voting delegates from the Scugog area at the con- vention as both Matthew Dymond and Merle Van Camp failed to get enough support at the meeting in Uxbridge last week. Dr. Dymond, from Port Perry is former MPP for the old riding of Ontario and served many years in the pro- vincial Cabinet. Mr. Van Camp from Blackstock is the present president of the York-Durham riding association. The population of Scugog Township will continue to grow at a gradual rate and is expected to be just over 20,000 in the year 2011, according to a forecast prepared by the Dur- ham Region Planning Department. In 1985, according to the forecast, the popul- ation of the Township will be 14,500, an increase of just over 1000 people in the last five years. The forecast says pop- ulation projections are based on two factors: natural growth rate or the difference between Bomb, grenade found at dump Two explosive devices - a small bomb and hand grenade found at the Seugog dump Now ember 15 were probably souvenirs that some- body just wanted to get rid of, according to Dur- ham Region Police. They were found by an employee at the landfill site on Durham Road 8, just west of Scugog Arena. He called the police who disposed of the devices by deton- ating them. The bomb, about 18 inches long with white steel casing, and the "pineapple type" gren- ade about five inches high are believed to be more than 20 years old. The grenade's striker assembly was in place. A police spokesman said it is impossible to tell if the bomb and grenade were live, but police treated them as if they were. "They look like they could be potentially dangerous and we treat all -found explosive de- vices as if they are live," said a police spokesman.
