There are. many problems ahead for all of us, but in most cases they are problems of our own making, and it is up to us to bring them under control. The future is never guaranteed - it is what we do about it that determines what the year will be for us. There is no return to the things we did yesterday - but we can go forward to better things and try to do them in a better way. And - let us be mindful of our blessings and be thankful that we live in a free country - with freedom of speech, religion and education. Happy New Year to one and all! Nestleton United S. School and Congregational Concert On Sunday evening, December 23, the Nestleton United Church groups held their annual Christmas concert, with a splendid .attendance on hand to view the excellent per- formance. Superinten- dent Richard MacKen- zie was the humorous " M.C. with wife Janice being very supportive. Carol Mairs was the able pianist for the interesting programme. The young fry with shining faces, starry eyes and dolled up in their finest really excelled themselves! They presented the diff- erent parts so well - the dedicated teachers must have been proud! Many folk were decked out in gowns of yester- year for the Bicentenn- ial program and some of the adults performed as well. Our minister, Rev. Dale Davis took quite a number of pictures while the programme was in progress. He also played the piano for the Carol singing. In due time Santa arrived on the scene with his jolly Ho! ho! ho! and treats were distributed to the excited youngsters. Lunch was served by the U.C.W. and a social time followed. Our heartfelt appreciation to Richard - our Superin- tendent - to pianist Carol - and the S.S. staff for the effort put forth to give pleasure to the children, parents, grandparents and so forth, in this Christmas season. Guests with Norm and Bernice this past week were cousins - Bruce and Lorraine Mairs from Nova Scotia, and Dave and Joan Mairs from Bowmanville. Very nice to see them and catch up on family news! John and Doreen Rush of Scugog Point, held a family celebra- tion on Christmas Day. After dinner they all went to see Doreen's mother, May Seeney who is presently a patient in Port Perry Community Hospital. They enjoyed a visit and helped her open the Christmas gifts. Our "best wishes' to Mrs. Seeney for a speedy recovery. On Christmas Day Mr. and Mrs. Grahame Fish, Nestleton, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Holland and family of Bowmanville. On Boxing Day Mr. and Mrs. Fish hosted a Yuletide celebration for the family. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Leishman and family of Reaboro, Mrs. Marlene Bannister and family, and a friend Mr. Robt. During the evening Santa came bouncing in much to the delight of the children and gave them treats. Later - a bountiful buffet lunch was enjoyed. For the Christmas celebration Sam and Mabel Cawker were in Oshawa for the day having a lovely noon luncheon with Grant and Merna Cawker, Chris, Curtis and friend Christine Kidd and Cathy Cawker. Later - Jamie Kidd dropped in for an enjoyable visit. In the evening the Sam Cawkers joined with Alan Cawker and family for a festive Christmas dinner. Some 20 family members were present for this fine get-to- gether. On Saturday, Law- rence and Gwen Malcolm, Nestleton, hosted their family to a pre-Christmas dinner - with 21 family members present. Barry and Joan Malcolm of Simcoe were weekend guests. Many from Nestleton attended the "special" service held for the Pastoral charge in Blackstock United Church on Christmas Eve. A fine attendance and an excellent service conducted by Rev.
