After months of hustle and bustle, shopping extra, baking etc. Christmas seems to come and go so very quickly. Our family had a wonderful Christmas this year and we trust you and your loved ones did too. Early Christmas morning we were sur- prised to have someone sitting in our living room saying "Ho-Ho- Ho" as our three boys bounced through the door. It kind of stopped them in their tracks for a few seconds because the two oldest ones thought that Santa was only a myth - so much for that theory guys!! Further investigation revealed another good- natured gentleman in the person of their uncle, Murray Rodd. It certainly will be a Christmas for them to remember! Christmas evening we enjoyed sharing a delic- ious turkey dinner with Don's family at the home of his parents, Les and Grace Beacock in Prince Albert. Also pre- sent were Bryan and Judy Beacock with their son Philip. Boxing Day the Rodd family were at No.1 Bugtussel Corners for their annual Christmas get-to-gether with the Don Beacock's. Those who were there to sample the goodies were Ken and Mildred Rodd, John and Shirley, Annette and Scott Foster, Myrtie Stone all of Port Perry, Keith and Donna, Jacqueline and Daryl Rodd of Uxbridge and Marion Perigoe and Heather of Brooklin. Due to illness in their home Mr. and Mrs. Murray Rodd were una- ble to join us. The Christmas Eve Candlelight service at Seagrave Church was a delight to attend and was one of the lovliest services in recent memory. The choir and their special guests cap- tured the large congreg- ation with their Christmasy selections. Many thanks to Rev. Rodgers, our organist Mrs. Joan Lee and each and everyone who assisted in anyway to make that evening such a memorable one. The residents of Sea- grave wish to extend their deepest sympathy to Ron and Faye Aldred and their family in the loss recently of Ron's mother Mrs. Gertie Aldred. Sorry about the short length of this column this week. Due to the fact our news deadline was Saturday morning instead of Monday morning, I guess every- one forgot, including myself, to get their news in extra early. Next week we'll all be back to normal, folks. Birthday greetings to Emily Smith, Mark Sturman and Don Bea- cock who all celebrated birthdays this week-end and also to little Erin Kent who had her 3rd birthday earlier this month. My wish for the New Year of 1985 would be for the restoration of peace in this troubled old world, an abundance of love both to give and to receive, strength to support us against adverse situations and hope and faith for a happier, healthier and more peaceful tomorrow for each of you. Happy New Year folks! Next week please call Liz Smith at 985-7447 with news items for this column. Scugog Island by Mrs. Earl Reader With Christmas and New Year's celebra- tions over, you must have stacks of empty pop bottles in your garage. Well, here is a suggestion from the Island Boy Scouts. If you would like to donate them, they will be pleased to pick them up at your driveway after 10 a.m. on Sat. Jan. 5. Mrs. Alva Thompson has slowly recovered from her bout of pneumonia and is now able to enjoy the new home in Apple Valley. However, she was saddened to hear of the sudden passing of her youngest sister, Marg- aret O'Brien, on Sun- day, December 23 at Arcola, Saskatchewan. The organizations of the Scugog United Con- gregation will please have reports type- written and given to Nick Henshaw by Jun. 13. Offering envelopes for 1985 are now available from Betty Ann Free man as well as calculat- ed commitment forms.
