a PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 26, 1965 -- 17 Damming the torpedo-less chairs (From page 16) asked Queen Elizabeth in a proper English accent. '"'Camembert cheese, your Majesty," replied Glen. The Queen's lighted up. "CAM-EM-BERT?" face she said, her proper: English accent taking on Monty Python proportions. : Forced to adhere to a rigid schedule, the amaz- ed monarch moved along, followed shortly by Prince Phillip. By the time the Prince arrived for Beave's in- spection, the gooey camembert cheese she had been eating was melted thick and fast to the roof of her mouth like peanut butter, and the 40 pound beaver was gum- ming away at it with enough suction noises to put a trough full of pigs out of business. The Prince stared at her for a moment. "Is it eating gum?" he asked in a proper English accent. "No sir," replied Glen with a straight face. '"'She's eating camembert cheese." "CAM-EM-BERT?!" said the Prince, echoing his wife's sentiments and gesturing for her to come back and gawk at the beaver who was gumm- Dom Perignon. Since then, the handle has been Lady Beave. Last week Canada's only artistocratic beaver made her first ap- pearance at the Port Perry Beavers meeting, ingratiating herself forever in the hearts of the tykes, who like all children who meet Lady Beave, want a pet beaver * of their own. Never Bites And while Lady Beave has never bitten or hurt - anyone (even in a fit of temper, the furball is merely petulant, and is known to scream and sulk like a small child), not all beavers born in captivity have the hope of being successful house pets. "It's just not wise for children to even think of bringing home a baby beaver," Glen says. "Not only would they get bit- ten, the beaver would die." And then, even if the beaver in question has been born in captivity, it takes a special knowledge of animals and animal training to make the relationshi © work. : The Chapmans have that knowledge, and as a result, have a cuddly, af- fectionate pet in their midst. A beaver who Just slapping one webbed foot in front of the other, Lady Beave hightails it across the living room floor with a bundle of wood in her arms (and teeth), enroute to the kitchen, where she was in the midst of damming up the kitchen chairs. To Beave's way of thinking, all the wood ing a food ranked right loves camembert cheese up there with caviar and and meeting Royalty. - Check ... ~~ HOMESTEAD FURNITURE & APPLIANCES for savings on luxury HARDING CASINO ROYAL | ERIN TWIST Cut & Loop - Reg. 19.95 Hard Twist - Reg. 23.95 % *15.99 FREE ESTIMATES -- INSTALLATION AVAILABLE HARDING PENTAGON SAXONY 1 1 95...
