The setting for the event was the Gate Restaurant in Port Perry. Family members present for this specials celebration were: Hus- band George, Arnold and Jean Williams, Nestle- ton; Helen Vine, Blackstock; Constable Jerry Bowers, Peter- borough; Ralph and Cecile Bowers, Craig, Todd and Tracy of Tyrone; Bert Bowers, Oshawa (wife Marilyn was unable to attend), Dorothy Carson, New Liskeard; Earl Bowers, Nestleton and Carol Eb- bett of Port Perry. Jean made a beautiful birth- day cake for the occa- sion. After the delicious meal, all returned to the Bowers home in Nestle- ton for a visit. Warmest wishes to Ella from all her Nestleton friends! World Day of Prayer Service An excellent service was held at Nestleton Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 1st, 2:30 p.m. for the World Day of Prayer Service. The President of the Ladies' Aid, Dorothy Lee, was the capable chairperson and extended a cordial welcome to the many folks attending, both men and women. She in- troduced the guest speaker Rev. Fred Swann of Oshawa, who was born in Ireland -- coming to Canada in 1948. After attending High School in Eastern Ontario, he later graduated from the University of Toronto -- and continued theological Studies at Knox College. He and wife Margaret have a family of four, three are married and daughter Susan is attending Bible College. Rev. Swann is presently teaching Special Education classes in Bowmanville High School and conduc- ting Church services at Nestleton Presbyterian and Ballyduff Churches. The speaker presented meaningful thoughts on the theme "Peace Through Prayer and Ac- tion" emphasizing the importance of our con- cern for Peace and Ac- tion in a very confused, oppressed world. Let us' have acceptance, respect and love so that together as a world family, we may be actively involved in establishing Peace in our time. The five churches in Cartwright had a part in the service. At the close, candles' were lit by a leader from each church- Nestleton Presbyterian- Bertha McLaughlin; Nestleton United- Gwen Malcolm; Blackstock Anglican- Elaine Bailey; Blackstock Eileen McLaughlin; Caesarea Community- Rev. W.H. Crawford. The offering amounted to $89.00. Organist for the service- Mrs. Shirley Scott. The service was prepared by the Women of India. Greeters at the door- Flora Shaw and Mamie Magill. Fellow- ship was enjoyed after the service in the Sunday School room downstairs with Rev. Fred Swann giving the Grace. We do thank the Ladies of the Presbyterian Church for their warm hospitality. Nestleton Presbyterian Ladies Aid The regular monthly meeting was held in the Sunday School room Thursday, February 21, with a small attendance than usual due to illness and weather conditions. Visiting at the farm were the avid fishermen John Sharpe, Gary Nottingham and Grant Cawker of Oshawa. Not too much luck -- the wary fish escaped! Curtis Cawker and friend Rob Smith and Chris Cawker were recent visitors. Good to see the boys back fishing and on the ski-doo trail now and then. Dale Davis throughout the service. The minister presented an interesting story period for the Sunday School youngsters- and the Lenten message for the congregation "An Easter People" was meaningful, delving back into history to some extent. The sermon clos- ed with The Apostles' Creed repeated in unison. Scripture was taken from Deuter- onomy and Acts. A very nice number was sung by members of the evening U.C.W. with Carol Mairs accompanying, on the piano. Greeting at the door were Betty Headon, Kim and Stacey.
