A very interestin meeting developed on "education" at the Bethesda-Reach W.I. February 27th held at the home of Mrs. T. Rance. Mrs. Shirley Harrison from the ministry of education, Queen"s Park, Toronto, shared with us the changing concepts of curriculum. The S.E.R.P. report making some 98 recommenda- tions for reform having to be sorted through and priorities made where somethings become policy and others remain optional or let go. As education officer in the curriculum branch of the ministry of educatioin Mrs. Harrison held responsibility in the revi- sion of the family studies' guideline. All guidelines are handed down to the Director of Education at board level, then to his principals to be put into action in the classroom. I am sure we better appreciate some of the challenges and frustrations at the ministry level by her ex- amples and factual experiences. Mrs. Harrison has pro- mised to send to our president information material from the ministry. It should prove interesting to see how these are applied in our schools. A most in- teresting discussion resulted as the ladies shared their thoughts on our roll call. "What to you, really makes the educated man or women,"" and our motto, Education is what you get from reading the small print. Experience is what you get from not reading it.
