SLE alll itiin, S SSEREESR S CR No holidays for Port Novice team This holiday weekend would better be named a hockey weekend for the Pearce Auctioneers Novice team as they par- ticipated in 2 day long tournaments. Friday we were the host team in an exciting day full of excellent hockey at our Annual Novice tournament. The day started off with our team matched up against the Uxbridge team. The game started out slow with Uxbridge scoring midway through the 1st period. Late in the 2nd period, Uxbridge took a 2-0 lead. Port con- tinued their slow pace until the last 2 minutes of the game when we were given a minor penalty which led to our only goal of the game by Brent Harper assisted by Ken- ton LeFort. Because Omemee fail- ed to show up for the 2nd game of the day, Port played unofficially in their place against Keswick. Port Perry won this match-up 4-0 but Keswick advanced on the championship side because of the defaulted team. Brent Harper and Graham Holt played an excellent game each scoring 2 goals and assists going to Tom Durward, Brett Lawson and Kenton LeFort. Omemee arrived later in the morning to face off against our home team Auctioneers. The first period remained scoreless with both teams having equal op- portunities to score. Ear- ly in the second period, the home team picked up "momentum beginning with a goal by Sandy Mark assisted by Greg ~ Thompson. Later in the period, Davy Bourgeois broke away and scored making the score 2-0. Minutes later, Kenton LeFort received a well executed pass from . Brent Harper and drilled one up top in the Omemee net. With 5 seconds re- maining in the period, Davy Bourgeois netted his second of the game with the assist going to fellow linesman Scott Heasman. Rounding off the scoring in the third period was a great lone effort goal by Brent Harper with Port ending the game 5-0, and advan- cing to the consolation finals. The 4th and final game of the day proved to be a real show stopper as we faced off against a strong Lindsay team. Lindsay took the lead early in the 1st period but about 5 minutes later, INSTANT PASSPORT PHOTOS By Appointment Only Ready While You Wait. Before the period ended, Lind- say scored again but with 14 seconds remain- ing, Davy Bourgeois once again put one past the Lindsay net minder ending the period 2-2. In previous games against Lindsay, we had gone down to defeat but todays game would pro- ve how much our team has improved since the ~ beginning of the season. The spectators enjoyed a close well played hockey game. Late in the 2nd period Port took a 2 goal lead with the first goal going to valiant ef- fort by Graham Holt, who stole the puck at the blue line, deked out the goalie and tucked it behind the Lindsay goaltender. : The final period of the game saw Lindsay net one more in a losing ef- fort but kept the pressure on until the end. Mike Pashley was again called upon to make many in- crediable stops main- taining Port's 4-3 lead. The boys received lovely medals and ban- ners from the "Jr. C" organization who spon- sored the tournament. Sutton Tournament The following day we travelled to Sutton to participate in their tour- nament and faced off against the Millbrook 'team. Despite the early hour and the busy day before, both teams came out eager to win. Millbrook scored the only goal of the 1st period within seconds of the opening whistle; and held the lead until mid- way through the second period. Davy Bourgeois open- ed Port's scoring with a lovely goal assisted by defenceman Gavin Carnegie and goaltender Mike Pashley. Port then took the lead on a goal by Kenton LeFort assisted by defenceman Jay King. Millbrook then retaliated with 2 goals ending the 2nd period "with Port down 3-2. Tur- ning on the pressure Port tied up the game with a powerful shot by Scott Heasman assisted by Davy Bourgeois. This forced the game into overtime. With a challenging situation on their hands, Port rallied their efforts and Brent Harper broke away and fired one by the Millbrook goaltender assisted by Scott Heasman. Good work boys! Port then advanc- ed towards the championship. After lunch, the boys then faced off against the powerful Sutton team. _ The first period ended in a 1-1 tie with-Port's goal being scored by Scott o Heasman on a breakaway. The tempo of the game picked up during the next period with increased body con- tact and rough play. Port Auctioneers met them head-on and held their own ~ throughout the game. Mike Pashley was superb in net stopping many hard shots by the Sutton team. Our team played some - of their finest hockey of the year this weekend and should be very proud of their efforts. Sutton scored one goal late in the third period ending the game with Port down 2-1. This finishes off the 1984-85 season for the Pearce Auctioneers. At this time we would like to thank Mr. Pearce for his continued support throughout the year, the coaching staff who spent countless hours with the boys and did such a marvelous job and final- ly the faithful fans who have supported us throughout the season. Have a nice summer, see you next year!!! In the B championship, B.J. Donuts came out on top with a close 3-2 win over J and D Carpentry.
