Cornish gymnasts had an excellent showing at a meet in Oshawa last week for Elementary Students in Durham Region. Pictured above, the team following the competition. Front row, left, Lisa Toye (Silver), Vanessa Gibson (Bronze), Lori-Jean Wallace, Sharon DeKoning (3 Bronze), Angela Martin, Jennifer Tingle. Second row, (From page 25) As president, Jack will be attending as many of the tournaments and championships series as possible. And he will also attend regular executive meetings which are held several times during the year. He says one issue the Association will be study- ing closely this year is Regional representation to ensure that at least one person from all parts of the province is a member of the OASA ex- ecutive at the director level. The findings of a com- mittee on the issue will be presented at the an- nual convention next spring. This summer for the first time, OASA will stage an "Orthodox style' open tournament. 'Jack says there are close to 200 teams play- ing "Orthodox style" softball and it seems to be making a comeback in Ontario where it en- Joyed great popularity 30 and 40 years ago. The rules are identical to fastball, except the mound is 40 feet from the plate, rather than 46 feet, and pitchers are not allowed to windmill or sling shot delivery. They must start their delivery with the pitching hand behind their back. As president of OASA, Jack will receive no com- pensation other than a small honorarium and expense money for travelling out of town to meetings or on other association business. But he says the great satisfaction for him is be- ing closely involved with a sport he loves very much, having the oppor- tunity to give something to that spdrt, and renew- ing the strong friend- ships he has developed with OASA people over the years. Presidents of the OASA are elected to a one year term, but it is usual for them to serve two terms. Jack says it is too early for him to say at this time whether he'll seek a second term, but he is a firm believer in the association's practise of bringing new people Tt a Gymnasts perform well Jack Cook Jr. OASA president onto the executive each year to ensure input and fresh ideas. Because of his new duties this summer, Jack has been forced to give up his official involve- ment with local Port Perry Association, but Mr. Clive Roane, coach; Wendy Leask, Jackie Beal, Barbara Brooks (Gold, Silver, Bronze), Andrea Johnston, Patricia Fry (Silver, Bronze). Back row, left, Sherri-Lee Hvidsten (Silver, Bronze), Misty Garvock (3 Gold, Silver), and Tammie Keeler (3 Gold, Bronze). chances are you'll see him around the ball yard on Water Street if he's not at an OASA tourna- ment in Stratford or Oshawa or Kemptville.
