May 22, 1985 Cartwright plays wow audience There was some tough competition from the two other entries in this year's Cart- wright Central Public School's Drama Night competition, from Checkmate and Spring Cleaning, but Soap Opera, a one-act play by John Kirkpatrick took first place. The school presented two nights of drama, May 15 and 16, and impressed all who attended. The win- ning play includes cast members, Erica Hiemstra, Sheryl Gibson, Steve Connors, Danny Maw, Michael Stanley, Jennifer Flet- cher, Cindy Leach, Producer/Director Bethany Schryburt, Connie Denault, Frances Grove and Staff Assistant Jennifer ~ Summers. The female winners includ- ed Connie Denault, merit, for her performance in Soap Opera as Mrs. Kajonas; best actress Jennifer Fletcher as Jenny Reeves in Soap Opera; Erica Hiemstra, merit, as Tilly in Soap Opera; and Kris Bayley, best supporting actress, in Spring Cleaning as Miss Price. Best actor awards were presented to Daryl Leatherdale, merit, as Hamilton Worthington in Checkmate; Mike Haines, best actor, as Tom Jordan in Checkmate; Kevin Gibson, merit, as Ned Sloane in Spring Cleaning; and Chris Delong, best supporting actor, as Joe Phillips in Spring Cleaning.
