Their total years of work at the hospital added up to 72 years. The four women General of Canada, in her capacity as Chief Scout for Canada, has announced the awarding of a Silver Acorn for especially distinquished 2 ROYAL services to Scouting to Mr Gordon M Rahme of 131 Alva St, Port Perry, The service recognized by this award covers twenty one years of worked in the nursing department. Starting in 1964. Mr. Rahme worked as a uniform leader for nine years, during which time he served as a Service Scouter. Deputy District Commissioner and for two years as Oshawa District Commissioner. During these years. several outstanding pro- grams were offered in- cluding a special celebration at Camp Samac in 1971 marking the 100th Birthday of Col. R.S. McLaughlin. This _ particular event included a visit by His Excellency Roland Michener. The Governor General. While continuing his appointment as Service Scouter in the Oshawa Council, Mr. Rahme was also active, in similar role, as Assistant Provin- cial Commissioner for Lakeland Region, an area that stretches from Lake Ontario to Parry Sound. Here again his leadership and love of the outdoors promoted an aggressive program of camping and outdoor activities for boys. In 1974, Mr. Rahme was elected to the Oshawa District Council and appointed chairman of the Camping Commit- tee. The job of the com- mittee 1s to promote camping and outdoor ac- tivities as well as the use Silver Acorn Award for Scouter Gord Rahme of the two Oshawa District Council's camp sites. In accepting this job, Mr. Rahme and his committee produced great results. These results included major projects such as replace- ment of the three totem poles, a land mark and Camp Samac and the replacement of one of the original log cabins destroyed by fire as well as.a program of improv- ed maintenance at both Council sites. Recogniz- ing the changing social structure of our com- munity, it was in this period the concept of Council Operated Sum- mer Camps was developed and resulted in the present, very popular, summer camp- ing programs offered by the Boy Scouts. In addi- tion to his personal com- mittment and active par- ticipation in the pro- grams of the Scouts, Mr. Rahme. has been very successful in recruiting and inspiring committee members to work with him. Mr. Rahme was in- formed of the award by a letter from Donald Deacon, National Scout Commissioner. The award will be presented by Lieut. Governor of Ontario at a special in- vestiture ceremony Lo be held at Queen's Park in the fall.
