Elizabeth Luke was the guest of honour for a birthday party on Friday evening held at the Gate Restaurant, Port Perry hosted by her parents Harold and lois Luke. They were also invited guests to the Awards Luncheon at noon where John was the recipient of the Student's Federation Gold Medal, awarded to the Student 'who contributes the most through involvement in extra-curricular pro- grams, to their class and the Ontario Agricultural College while maintain- ing Academic Standing. John has accepted a position as Sire Analyst and Field Represen- tative with the New Brunswick Central Ar- tifical Breeding Co- operative in Fredericton, New Brunswick. John begins this new challenge on July 2. On Friday Merrill and Norma VanCamp and Marie Atfield attended Convocation Exercises at Guelph University when Valerie received her Bachelor of Com- merce Degree in Hotel and Food Administra- tion. On Sunday morning the Blackstock United Church celebrated the 60th anniversary of the formation of the United Church. The Sacrament of Baptism was celebrated when Kim Deantetle, daughter of Rick and Shirley Dingman and Kelly Joy, daughter of John and Helen Coates were bap- tized. Confirmation was also conducted when Sandy Churchill, Rick Dingman, Jason Kyte, Karen and Paul Radford were received on Pro- fesson of Faith. On Sunday evening a good crowd attended the Special Awards ceremony when the highest awards in Guiding were presented in a very impressive ceremony to several girls. All-Round Cords was presented to Elaine' Kelly and the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award presented to Dawn Bayley. Lois (VanCamp) McLeod spoke on the In- ternational Year of the Youth. Presentations were made by the Units, the District, the Division, the Ladies Auxiliary and the parents to the girls. During the evening's ceremony the following Brownies Christina Clark, Robyn Cliff, Erin Larmer, Dana Lee, Jocelyn Reader, Dana Russell from Blackstock, Claire Notman from Caesarea flew up to Guides. The Blackstock W.I. met at the Town Hall on June 5 at 1 p.m. After a social time the President Edith McLaughlin welcomed everyone pre- sent, the visitors and Public School students. She turned the pro- gramme over to Muriel Hoskin, convenor for Cultural Activities. Beth Schryburt with four grade six students and two grade one students put on a Drama Dem- onstration, demonst- rating voice pitch, speéd and description. The students were asked to say a sentence two dif- ferent ways to point out which pitch or volume they were gettirff across. They acted out a few skits of nursery rhymes.
