18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. August 27, 1985 Lawyer briefs UCW on the wills Greenbank News by Deris Hill The Women's Institute met on Aug. 21 at the Nonquon Educational Centre. The meeting opened with members singing the ode and reciting the Mary Stewart Collect. Vice President Mrs. Margaret Couperthwaite then con- ducted a short business session, where the minutes and financial report were accepted as read. The guest speaker lawyer Ronald Bridgewater was then in- troduced and he gave a most interesting talk on aspects of law concern- ing women. Attention was especially drawn to the "Family Law Act" and the making of simple wills. Members were en- couraged to ask ques- tions and many in- teresting points were discussed. Refreshments were then served and Mr. Bridgewater thank- ed for his attendance The meeting continued with a discussion on the entry for Port Perry Fair and items were displayed. The meeting closed with the singing of 'O Canada.' Hostesses were Mrs. Deirdre Earle and Doris Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Karsay accompanied Mr and Mrs. Tony Minten on a four day trip to Michigan last week. They attended the Frapkenmeth Festival, which they en- joyed very much. George and Gladys Van De Walker attended the Booth family reunion at Gravenhurst on Saturday. The Greenbank Orioles Ball Club hosted a twelve team league tournament this past weekend. The tournament was a big success despite the threatening weather. The Championship was won by the Mariposa Oldtimers who defeated the Oakwood Bears in a very exciting final game by a score of 20 to 14. The Consolation was won by the Little Britain Rejects who came from behind, scoring six runs in the eighth inning to edge out the Valentia's Blues 16 to 15. Good luck to the Greenbank Orioles in the OV. Provincial Cham- pionships in Niagara on Sept. 13, 14 and 15. Church Services will commence next Sunday Sept. 1st at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Shepherd in charge. There will be Adult Bible Study on Sept. 5th at 7:30 p.m at the Manse. The High School Young People are invited to the Manse on Sept. 8th at 7:30 to form a group. Betty and Linda Stone have returned from an enjoyable four week tour around Great Britain and attended the Leask Clan reunion at Edin- burgh and Aberdeen Scotland. They visited friends and relatives in various places throughout England. The Greenbank boys squirts baseball team would like to thank Spencer's Feed Service for sponsoring them again this year. The boys had a very successful season and came second in the tournament held last week in Port Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Chadlock of Milliken had dinner Sunday evening with Don and Helen McKean. Mrs. Marie Real of Hastings spent Thursday visiting with Mrs. Margaret Real. Sunday School will commence on Sept. 8 with rally day and the presentation of the awards. ~ Bob and Dianne Stone spent a few days recent- ly visiting farms in Penn. Many new faces will be seen when those who at- tended Bible School dur- ing Aug. will wish to return. Something new - a cradle roll department of children age zero to 2 years looked after at the Manse during Service After SS. there will be a coffee hour for new parents and regulars to meet the full staff com- prised of many willing helpers. On Sunday we were pleased to meet with Dr. McKay when he came as our guest speaker and gave us much to ponder on 'Sacrifice' as to how and why we are willing to practice it We are pleased to welcome our travelling ladies Doreen Adam, Marion Carter and Betty Reader back home from China and nearby areas. Brooklin flower show held by Aldine Wick The Brooklin Hor- ticultural Society will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 28th at 8:00 P M. at the C E.
