Institute captures fourth prize for old decorations Scugog Island News by Mrs. Earl Reader It doesn't seem possi- ble that we are into Sept already with all its new beginnings We have formerly thought of Jan. as a time of New Resolu- tions but actually Sept. represents a new life style for hundreds of peo- ple with refreshed energy and ambitions. The Port Perry Fair is over, with many happy memories and the Island Women's Institute are happy to have captured a fourth prize on their display of old time Christmas decorations. We welcome the new family on the former Ashbridge farm at the "Head" - Mr. and Mrs. Bedell and their 4 sons, tho' they won't be involv- ed in the Community un- til later. Don Ashbridge spent last weekend in the Oshawa Hospital for the removal of a kidney stone. So he is now recuperating in their temporary Port Perry home. On Sunday many children returned to the Island United for an ear- ly start in Sunday School. Rev. Robinson presented each with the gift of a new pencil for their school days and remind- ed them of God's gifts in preparation for life. The "Head" U.C.W. meet at the home of Mrs. Alva Thompson at 46 Or- chard Road in Apple Valley this Wed. evening. Don't forget the Bake and Craft Sale Sat. Coffee Hours will take place again during the fall and winter at the Island United. But you are requested to send in your preference of day and time. It is said that nothing shocks our youth to-day. A youngster drops down to his knees to get a closer look at an unusual bird at the Fair's Petting Zoo, always a favourite attrac- tion for the toddler set. The old-fashioned four letter words have no ef- fect what-so-ever What many people fail to see, 1s that there are other four letter words that ab- solutely shock to-days youth.
