PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1985 -- 21 Tyrone down two in soccer semi Tyrone showed their class and fought back hard and within ten minutes the pressure paid off with Lance Haluka of Tyrone scor- ing a well deserved goal after some pretty play through the Port defence. They kept the pressure on and three minutes later Steven Whitbread tied the game when he lobbed the ball over the Port goaler's head. The prettiest play of the game occurred at the 27 minute mark. Port Perry had forced a throw-in near the corner flag. Mike Kosurko threw in to Jamie Brown, Brown passed back to Kosurko, Kusurko lifted a long ball in front of the net and Kenny Smart first timed his shot pass- ed the Tyrone goalie to make the score Port 3, Tyrone 2 at the half. One minute into the se- cond half, Vince Cris- cione, the Port goalie was injured in a goal mouth scramble and lan Thompson had to take over in goal. He was given no chance to settle in as Tyrone pressed hard and he was forced to make three great saves in the next two minutes. The Port Perry defence settled down with Glen Paige and Vince Tripp in the backfield and Neil Mark, John Andrews and Jason Reetham-Clayton at midfield all contributing to keep the Tyrone strikers of f the scoreboard. At the 9 minute mark Jamie Stubbs took a lovely pass from Mike Kosurko and blasted one from outside the box to make the score 4-2 for Port Perry. Ten minutes later Mike Kosurko showed his speed when he burst through the middle and gave the Tyrone goalie no chance to make the score 5-2. Tyrone seemed to get their second wind and fought back with two quick goals in four minutes to make the score Port 5, Tyrone 4. Things really became hectic after that as Tyrone tried everylhing to tie the score. lan Thompson again was outstanding in goal for Port and kept the Tyrone strikers frustrated as he made save after save. Then with only six minutes left in the game, Kosurko picked up a nice pass from Alex Cranmer and gave Port the in- surance goal they despgrately wanted. The score was now 0 YOU THE SPONSORS OF THE DENNIS ANDERSON CHEV-OLDS Port Perry 6, Tyrone 4, and that was how it re- mained at the final whistle.
