cugog Township is gearing up to take part in the national Pitch-In Week campaign again this year, which takes place during the week of April 22-29. The cross-Canada program, which was established in 1967, encourages public participation in keeping communites clean across the country. Scugog Mayor Marilyn Pearce stresses that the municipality can provide effective leadership on environmental issues, but it’s the responsibility of all local residents and businesses to ensure the township protects and preserves its environment. For it’s part, the township has a number of activi- ties planned for Pitch-In Week, beginning with a spe- cial flag-raising ceremony at the municipal office on Earth Day, Friday, April 21. Other community activities and events will in- clude a garden show at the Scugog Arena April 22 & 23, a community planting day on April 27, and the return of the popular 20 Minute Makeover program. Last year five schools, five businesses and over 1,000 residents joined with Scugog’s staff, Durham police officers and other partners to clean up the township. Mayor Pearce is asking for the entire community to help. “A safe and healthy environment for both current and future residents, with respect to Lake Scugog, water quality, the waterfront, our air and natural habitats is important to the future of the community,” 3 she says. h A full listing of the township's involvement and plans for - Pitch-In Week are listed in an ad at the bottom of page 21. & Also, residents are encouraged to watch for Scugog Town- ship's Environmental Highlights flyer outlining Scugog’s environmental initiatives for 2007.
