A column devoted to recognizing events and decisions affecting the residents of Scugog Towmship, and rating them with a “Thumbs Up, or Thumbs Down!” Thumbs Up to the cheerful group of women who greet custom- ers as they come through the doors at Port Perry Post Office every day. It doesn’t seem to matter when you drop into the lobby, they always have time for a friendly chat or comment. Our experience with the post office personnel over four decades has been extremely positive. Scu- gog is well served by our ‘posties’. Thanks girls! II the ‘male’ Township of Scugog who wimped-out of being part of the Township's ing the Heart and Stroke Big Bike challenge. (see pic- ture on page 23) It's hard to believe that not one man joined the 11 female staffers who took great delight in peddling their butts around town for a good cause. Thumbs Up to Jim Adam and homeowners along Portview Beach Rd. for taking the “bull by the horn’... to clean the rotting dead carp carcasses from the water in front of their properties. With all levels of government ‘passing the buck’ regarding responsibility for clean-up, it was nice to see neighbours helping neighbours to rid themselves of a very smelly and unhealthy situation. Take a bow!! Thumbs Down to the Concerned Citizens of Scugog for their stalling tactics with regard to the west end develop- ment. The $50,000 or more it will cost the township to defend its planning decision, will come directly out of Scugog taxpayer's pockets. Efforts to “seek clarifica- tion around wording in a staff report,” may slow things down, but will achieve nothing. It’s time to move on... it's over! There's no need to put taxpayers to the unwarranted cost! Thumbs Down to abusers of Handicapped Parking spaces. It's disgusting to see able-bodied people whipping into these spots, then jumping out to mail letters or run ° the bank, leaving those who really need the con- ience with no place to park. It’s unbelievable how many people abuse these spots. Shame on you! website: www.focusonscugog.com Sunday evening concerts at the Gazebo in Palmer Park got underway poly 24 with th Swing Tyme Melodies and Sweet Adeline Singers entertain- ts begin every Sunday at 7 p.m. and this years line up will inelude ‘Dixieland Jazz, Big Band sounds, Shakespeare in the Park, small variety ensembles, nostalgia evenings.
