$1000 jackpot brings smiles to lucky winner 'S An Oshawa woman who "has never won anything' picked up a DAE cheque for $1000 last Thursday night, three weeks after her ticket was pulled from the drum in the Port Perry Fair's cash draw. Yolanda Provenzano was all smiles as fair Board chairman Stewart Diceman presented her with the cheque for one thousand bucks. "I'm not a gambler, but when people offer tickets to me, I usually buy one. This is the first time I have ever won anything," she said. Ironically, Mrs. Provenzano wasn't at the Port Perry Fair over Labour Weekend when the draw was made. In fact, she wasn't even in the country. She had left for a vacation in her native Italy late in July, and did not return to Canada until September 11. Her family in Oshawa was notified of the windfall right after the Labour Day draw, and even though she had phoned home from Ita- ly to keep in touch, her two sons decided not to let their mother know she was $1000 richer. They wanted to keep the news as a home-coming surprise. Mrs. Provenzano bought the ticket at the Hillsdale Manor Nurs- ing Home in Oshawa where she works as a housekeeper. Does she have any immediate plans for the money? Not really, she said, but added that her two sons will probably help her spend it in some way. Bill was born in New Jersy, U.S.A. January 31, 1905, son of Elgie and Kate (Balfour) Mark. While still a child he lost his father and mother and was raised by his grandparents in Prince Albert. He spent his life in the Port Perry area. In March 1924 her married Ethel Jackson. For many years he worked for the Port Perry Creamery driving an ice cream truck, employed by Allan and Milton Goode and then by Silverwoods. Later he worked for the Port Perry Dairy and then for Ideal Dairy Through the years he made many friends and will be remembered by all who knew him He was a member of Port Perry United Church and Independent Order of Oddfellows and Maybelle Rebekah Lodges He was a staunch supporter of hockey and baseball He is survived by his wife, Ethel, daughter Lucille (Mrs Bert Gray), Port Perry, and predeceased by Gordon of Stratford and a brother Tony Mark of Port Perry He is sadly missed by 11 grand: children and 13 great grandchildren Funeral services were held in Wagg Funeral Home, Port Perry, on September 22 with Rev Glenn Jackson officiating Interment was at Pine Grove Cemetery.
