A must to attend! More on that later. Mother Nature has certainly been favouring us with some very delightful fall weather recently. En- joy it while you can folks -- it won't last forever! A great time to plant those spring bulbs too as well as reaping the bountiful harvest that our gardens have yielded. When we think of harvest time we are reminded that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Thanksgiv- ing is truly my favourite time of the year - a time to share with family and loved ones the many things, in this country, we have the good for- tune to enjoy in abundance. Don and I were delighted to be presented with a new little nephew recently. This handsome little man in the newest member of Keith and Donna Rodd's family of Uxbridge. Little Bryon Daniel has a little sister and brother to shower him with lots of love. Bryon is the eighth grand- child of Ken and Mildred Rodd and the 28th great grandchild of Mrs. Myrtie Stone of Port Perry. Saturday September 28 was a very special day for Miss Joanne Nobbs and Mr. John Molenaar! They exchanged marriage vows in a beautiful ceremony held in the Seagrave United Church. The bride is the lovely daughter of Fred and Jessie Nobbs. We wish to extend our best wishes to this happy young cou- ple and we trust their life together will hold many happy memories. Wedding bells will also soon be ringing for yet another pretty village gal Miss Bonnie Short who will be married Thanksgiving weekend. The Beacocks enjoyed a visit on Friday with a former co-worker of mine, Mr. Bill Sorenson and family of Fredericton. While in the vicini- ty Bill and Karen also visited his brother and family Mr. and Mrs. Ron Sorenson and Christopher of Seagrave. The Greenbank-Seagrave Group Committee are desperately seeking two Beaver leaders. If you would en- joy helping little boys of this age and you are over 18 years of age, I'm sure they'd be glad to hear from you. The Grou p Committee will be sponsoring a dance at the Green- bank Hall on Saturday, October 12. Tickets may be obtained from Terry Crawford at 985-3547 or Betty Willams at 985-8563 at a cost of $12.00 per couple. On Sunday morning Seagrave United Church celebrated its 79th anniversary and to help us com- memorate this special occasion we had as our guest speaker, the Rev Brian Gee of St Marks United Church in Whitby A very charming than who left us with many thoughts to mull over We were delighted to have the Touch of Class singing group pro- vide some musical entertainment for the congregation as well It's always a pleasure to have this very talented group join us and I'm ony sorry time did not permit them to sing many more selections' The chancel was enhanced greatly by two lovely baskets of flowers which had been the gift of Fred and Jessie Nobbs Many thanks folks for being so thoughtful Fred and Jessie wish to extend an invitation to all their friends and neighbours to drop into their home during the early part of this week to view their daughter Jo-anne and new hubby John Molenaar's shower and wedding gifts. Pat Fisher deposited money in our birthday box and Lee Beacock and Terry Lavereau are also celebrating birthdays during the next week. Best wishes to these folks and all others who will be blowing out another candle this week. On Sunday, October 6, our con- gregation will be hosting an pot luck supper beginning around 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. to welcome our new minister the Rev. David Shepherd and his wife and family. Everyone is welcome to attend this very infor- mal affair and the only thing you are requested to bring along is a first- course entree or a dessert. Hope to see you there! Also Communion will be observ- ed at the morning services at all three churches at their usual times as well as installation of Sunday School teachers and assistants. Rev. Shepherd is intending to organize a confirmation class begin- ning tentatively around the first of November. Anyone in their teens and any age thereafter are welcome to join. For further information please call 985-7787. The UCW ladies will have their meeting on Wednesday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. and the hostess will be Mrs. Lillain Ross. Please plan to attend. I would like to relate a little inci- dent that happened fairly recently that truly illustrates the "helpful" kind of folks who live in this area. It seems this gentleman and his wife, I musn't mention names to protect the innocent of course, are well known for the meticulous way they keep their lawn manicured. A friend happened by one day and found this gentleman in great distress. It seems a "tragic" thing had happened - his lawn mower had quit! Of course, I can sympathize with the gentleman because I'd feel exactly the same way if my vacuum cleaner died on me! The friend, upset to find him so distraught, decided to see if he could help him out of this predicament and save him some money as well. The friend I might add has quite a reputation for not only being sympathetic and ingeneous but also well noted to be a practical joker. This "'solution" to the problem of having a lawn mower that wouldn't work was to hand deliver a very "portable" lawn mower - a goat! Should save on the ironing for his wife too - especially if she hangs them on a low clothes line!! Isn't it wonderful to have such thoughtful friends! Gas is getting too expensive anyways! last Sunday we celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism in a very lovely service conducted by Rev David Shepherd. The following lit: tle ones were received Matthew Robert. son of Robert and Ellen Bruce. Michael Conor Fielding. son of Paul and Cheryl Simpson and Jessica Courtney. daughter of Stuart and Cathy Houthouys Of course, all the adoring grandparents were in attendance to witness this very sacred event Please call Patty Wilhams at 985-2453 with next weeks news WEDDING INVITATIONS and Accessories PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street Port Perry 985-7383 ~ 4 1
