We feel it is transition month. it leads us gently away from the warm sum- mer and slyly into fall...and before we know where we are at, the frost 1s upon field and flowers, and breathing down our necks. We are very thankful that beautiful October is in between with the trees pouring out colourful extravagance in lavish generosity - the loveliest month of the year! Baptismal Service Sam and Mabel Cawker of Nestleton, attended the meaningful - baptismal service held in St. An- drew's United Church, Oshawa, on Sunday morning, September 29, 11 a.m. when Jessica Danielle, infant daughter of Dan and Lea Kiichen of Oshawa, was baptised with Rev. Fraser Lacey officiating. Standing with the proud parents were spon- sors Scott and Joanne Cawker. Jessica Danielle wore her great, great, grandfather Russell Carter's 107 year old Christening gown. After the inspriational service - coffee and tea were served in the church hall. Later - Dan and Lea "hosted' a delicious buffet at their home, 488 Rogers Street, Oshawa, for the family members. Many pictures were taken and a delightful visit was enjoyed. Of interest ... present were two sets of grandparents and three great grandparents. Nestleton United Church A splendid congregation attended the 11:15 a.m. service at Nestleton United Church on Sunday, September 29. Greeting at the door were Arnold and Jean Williams. Our student minister, Verna Windrem opened the service and read the Scriptures. The Jr. Choir sang joyfully 'Being Me" bringing smiles to all. Rev. Dale Davis con- ducted a meaningful Installation of Sunday School Teachers, students, parents and congregation took part. During the sermon period, Rev. D. Social Events On Saturday, September 28, Lawrence and Gwen Malcolm, Nestleton, were guests at the love- ly service in Zephyr United Church when Ellen Walker became the bride of Ronald Smalley. The recep- tion and dance following was held in Zephyr Hall. The glorious autumn weather added to the joy of the occasion. Wayne and Millie Cadotte of East Quarterline, Nestleton, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, September 24th. Our warmest wishes for many more happy years to the celebrants from this area. Norm and Bernice Mairs, Nestleton, went to Sundridge for a few days to visit Bernice's relatives. They stayed with brother Lewis and June Kent and spent some time with other relatives and friends. A nice change of pace - which one needs from time to time. Thanks to the kindness of driver Roy Chapman of Highland Creek, the Sam Cawkers, Scugog Point Rd., enjoyed a surprise visit by old friends Alex and Gertrude Cowan Scarborough, Orangeville and now of Little Bri- tain. Did our tongues ever wag as we caught up on family news and capers of by-gone days. We believe that surprise visits are the best and most enjoyable. Trust we'll see them soon again! Low score - Patti Thistle - 47. A fair crowd - next week as usual for a good time. Caesarea Community Church A wonderful service at Caesarea Community Church on Sunday, September 29, 11 a.m. Rev. Charles Clarke of Port Perry, took the ser- vice and spoke on, 'The Tranquili- ty of Unbelief and the Tranquility of Faith." Daniel Pugh Jr. read the Scriptures. Betty Stone was the ex- cellent guest organist from the Greenbank area and husband William, the fine soloist who sang the lovely number "Bless This House.' A real treat for the con- gregation! and much appreciated by all! The Hall is nearing completion and what possibilities it has for the future. We do commend those in charge of the building program. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford is spen- ding a month in England with his daughter - a much needed change. He will be back in about three weeks time, to take up his duties once again. ONE NIGHT Coming to ...
