Seven Scugog Township men pro- ved themselves against the top jaws of life operators in the continent and finished up faster than anyone else. On September 19th and 20th, the Scugog team tested its skill against 14 of the best teams anywhere in the continent and wound up with the fastest time, 17.25 minutes. You'd think that would automatically give the guys first prize but the judges didn't look at things quite that way. Calling the Scugog team "'brutal," the judges placed the team in fourth place, urg- ing them to be more gentle while operating the jaws of life. "But we were just going for speed," pointed out Roy Teer. a member of the team. "It was the way you broke the front windshield." fellow member AY ¢ 3; ; hoe 4 's 4 vs 4 a x gy > ' A A . Next time you'll have to break the windshield more gently." Team members aren't too concerned about their fourth place finish. They beat out teams who had beaten them in the past, and they put volunteer firefighting on the map. "They wouldn't let us win," quip- ped Captain Don Steele. The three teams that placed first. second and third all hailed from full- time firefighting stations. "Not bad for a volunteer team, eh?" laughed Clive Boyd. The team members, including Don Steele, John Foster, Clive Boyd. Rob Cook, Irv Gibson, Roy Teer and Paul Dick. are hoping to have another go at first place in March 1986, when the best teams from across North America will meet in Tampa, Florida NAN HOMESTEAD. 7/ /} | FAN HOMESTEAD FURNITURE & APPLIANCES sell alotof bedding' Delivery 1s no extra - its FREE!
