WARD TWO This will be a two person race with Port Perry businessman Howard Hall and community ac- tivist Roy Grierson squaring off to fill the spot left vacant by incum- bent Jack Cottrell who is stepping out of politics. Mr. Hall operates a business in Port Perry, is well known for his work on the Hospital Board and served a term on old Port Perry Village council. Mr. Grierson, is active in many community organizations. He took a stab at federal politics last fall running in Durham Northum- berland riding on the NDP ticket. He lives in Port Perry. WARD THREE Councillor Don Cochrane is facing a challenge this time from Brad Heintzman, a semi-retired business consultant and from Ran- dy Scott, a teacher at Port Perry High School, who is now on a one year sabbatical. Mr. Heintzman served a term on council in Toronto in the 1950's |, and this is Mr. Scott's first run at active politics. WARD FOUR You may need a score card to keep track of the candidates seeking the ward seat in Car- twright as four of them will fight it out for a spot vacated by Harvey Graham. Jim Marlow is a retired businessman well known in Blackstock where he operated the family feed business. Neil McLaughlin, 31, a dairy farmer is attempting to get back into active politics after an absence of several years. He was the Ward 4 coun- cillor during the term from 1976-78, whe he stepped down. Mr. Bill Linnington of Nestleton has thrown his hat into the ring along with Chester Pedzikowski of Caearea. Mr. Linnington is self employed in the upholstery business and Mr. Pedzikowski runs his own appliance repair business. There are five con- didates seeking office to the two seats. Incumbent Stuart McEn- tyre, Joyce Kelly of Blackstock, who finished a narrow second in 1982; Bobbie Drew of Port Perry who is active in the PTA; Debbie Tredway of Seagrave, who is ac- tive in school affairs in Greenbank and Epsom; and John O'Toole of Scugog Island. He works in per- sonnel at General Motors and ser- ved a term on school board in Bowmanville. Candidates seeking election to the Separate School Board file papers in Whitby. The intire list was not available as this issue of the Port Perry Star went to press Monday evening. All of the races for the seats on council should prove interesting.
