i 36 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 22, 1985 Elizabeth Connell Elizabeth, a grade 7 student at Immaculate Conception, will play a rose in 'The Little Prince,' being produced in November. She has done lots of acting in school plays, sung in the school choir, and per- formed at the Sunderland Festival, but this will be her first big produc- tion. She likes the opportunity to 'be dramatic," without people telling her to 'act normal." She expects the theatre to be a hobby for her An Oshawa man was charged with failing to yield following a minor accident in Port Perry Oc- tober 16th. Cheryl Grieveson, 23, of Bigelow St. was travelling southbound on Bigelow St. when her 1981 Pontiac was struck by a 1984 Pontiac head- ed west on Bay Street. Damage totalled $1,600. Miss Grieveson suf- fered minimal injuries. Durham Region Police have charged William Major, 33, with failing to yield. Herb was well known and well respected and had many friends who will miss him. It was appropriate that the flowers in Burns Church for the 135th Anniversary last Sunday, were in memory of Mr. Herb Ashton, as he was an elder in Burns Church for many years. Our guest minister for the day was 'The Rev Dr. Alex Calder of Peterborough," who gave us two wonderful and challenging messages. In the morning his text was 'Behold I stand at the door and knock The Jr Choir sang two love ly numbers 'The Assurance March' and "Sing Hosannah" and the Sr Choir sang the anthem 'King all Glorious In the evening Dr Calder's message title was 'Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory," and the youth choir from St. Andrews, Scar- borough, 20 in number, sang four numbers beautifully After the last number which was called 'Reach Out and Touch," they left the choir loft and joined hands to circle the congregation as far as they could reach It was very effective At the close of the service the Kirk Guild served a lovely lunch bringing to a close another milestone in the life of Burns Church. Some things coming up are: This week on Thursday evening October 24th - there will be an Euchre party in the Community Centre. On November 5th in the Church Hall, the Kirk Guild will be showing a video called, "Street Proofing Your Kids " There are two bus trips coming up you can go on, one to Perth-Lanark area on November 21st and one to the huge Winter Craft Show at Ex- hibition Park on November 28th You may call 655-3401 for reservations. The spirit should not grow old. through her life Allie Nolan Allie also plays a rose in the rose garden in 'The Little Prince." She 1s a grade 6 student at Prince Albert who has also done some acting already. One of her experiences was to present a play to two classes on the "Coming of Spring' with several of her friends. They presented this having worked it up by themselves! Public speaking, choir, and piano Police report owners neglected to lock the front door. Drawers in the living room, hedroom and clothes closet had been rifled through but police say nothing was stolen. are some of her other interests, but she likes the theatre because it allows people to see different aspects of your abilities. Diana Bengel Diana is in grade 6 at Prince Albert School and has had an in- terest in the theatre since at least grade 3 when she and some of her friends put together a play for two of the classes at school. This November she will be in her first public production, "The Little Prince," put on by the Borelians. She will be a rose in the rose garden. In the past she has been an Indian in a Christmas play, and she plays the piano. For her, the acting is fun, especially learning and playing a part. She would like to be teacher (like Mom, and Dad) but the theatre is likely to be a "fun" pastime. Leigh Rollo Leigh will be the third Rollo in "The Little Prince" with her sister and her mother. As a grade 5 pupil at Prince Albert, she has been in school plays in the past, including the part of the tree in 'Tree Angel' and Winnie in "Winnie the Pooh." She enjoys piano, skating, horseback riding, soccer, and choir, as well as acting. This is fun for her, and she actually likes getting up in front of people. This November she will play the part of a rose in 'The Little Prince." Jennifer Geer Jennifer is in grade 6 at Prince Albert School. She first became in- terested in acting when she was in a presentation of "The Three Monkeys' for the Sunderland Festival. The school choir and play- ing the piano at the Sunderland Festival are some of her other - Who's who in the Borelians Drama Group achievements, as well as being one of the group who produced a play for her grade three class. She enjoys all aspects of theatre, including backstage and costumes, but likes acting best. She will play a rose in "The Little Prince' in November. Kim Rollo Kim will also be a rose in the garden for the Borelians production of 'The Little Prince." A grade 4 Prince Albert student, she began her interest in performing in kindergarten when she enjoyed par- ticipating in the band and choir. Other performing outlets include the annual skating carnival. She likes theatre because it is fun and because it allows one to *'dress up," and be someone else for a while.
