[Durham Regional Police and Auxihary for crowd control along the route, Port Perry Hydro for installing and tuming on the Chnstmas hghts, Port Perry Fair Board for the use of the fairgrounds, Ted Gnffen for the use of his buildings, the O PP. for escorting San- ta to the Latcham Centre, and to Santa Claus himself for bnnging joy to the hearts of hundreds of excited children The winmng floats in this year's parade are as follows Judges' Choice Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Durham North Most Onginal -- Scugoq Island United Church Sunday School Most Comic Seagrave Brownies Thank You All Again, The Directors, Scugog Chamber of Commerce HOLIDAY 0 Jennifer Geer will receive award The courage of a young Scugog Township girl has been recognized by the Ontario Community Newspaper Association Jennifer Geer 1s one of 15 young people from across Ontario to win a Junior Citizen of the Year Award from the Newspaper Association She 1s the daughter of Ivan and Margaret Geer of Prince Albert The Association informed the Star on Monday that Jennifer will receive the award at the annual OC- NA convention in Toronto, February 13 and 14 She was chosen from more than 100 nominations from all over ontario Jennifer, 11. received the Citizen of the Year award for her courage when her younger brother Matthew was battling a very serious illness more than a year ago. She donated bone marrow for a transplant for her brother and was a constant visitor with him while he was in hospital in Toronto and Boston. Her efforts won the respect and admira- tion of medical staff at the hospitals and were a source of inspiration for LEE EEE ES NO CHANCE Those who depend too much on the advice of friends can never ex- pect to be independent. Matthew died last March from complications Jennifer was nominated for the award by her mother, Margaret Geer The family will be the guests of the OCNA at the convention at the Westin Hotel in Toronto. The award will be made by Ontario Lt. Gover- nor Lincoln Alexander. Along with HANK YOU || Junior Citizen of the Year a plaque and pin, Jennifer will receive $200. This is the first time that Junior Citizen of the Year award has been presented to a person in the Port Perry area.
